Klein Curacao Boat Trip

Table of Contents

Take a trip to Klein Curacao and spend the day on one of the best remote beaches in all of the Caribbean.

If you’re headed to Curacao for vacation, you should absolutely consider adding in a boat trip to Klein Curacao, an uninhabited island that sits about 15 miles south.  It’s hands down one of the best tours and most unique days you can spend in Curacao.

(Pop over here first if you need help pronouncing Curacao, then come right back.)

Some of my favorite Caribbean days have been spent exploring remote beaches and small islands. If I’ve learned one thing in my extensive Caribbean travels, it’s that the feeling of being shipwrecked in paradise – truly away from it all – can really help you feel grounded. That’s exactly how you’ll feel on Klein Curacao, which means little Curacao.

Take this adventure, and you’ll spend the day on a long stretch of deserted beach that rivals the best beaches in all the Caribbean.  But a Klein Curacao trip takes a little planning, and mental preparation, so we’re here to make it easy for you.

There are several companies that offer Klein Curacao tour packages – but not all are created equal.  The boats are different, with varying inclusions and travel times, and so are the facilities once you arrive on the island. So how to choose?

This article rounds up the top Klein curacao boat trip providers to help you pick the right one. It also gives you an overview of what to pack and what to expect during your Klein Curacao trip.

How to get to Klein Curacao

By boat!  Curacao has some incredible attractions, but this is one of the most unique for sure. You’ll take a full day charter over to the deserted island.  You have a few choices, all highlighted below: motor yachts, small catamaran, large catamaran, or small powerboat.

How to choose your boat tour provider for your Curacao day trip?  A few things vary from boat to boat.

First, the travel time takes anywhere from 40 minutes to 90 minutes depending on the boat you choose.

Second, the departure times vary too, ranging from 6:45am to 9am.

And third, so do the facilities! Only a few tour operators have a beach house on the island, for example. Some offer open bar, others do not.

We encourage you to browse your options, see what’s available, and pick your priorities!

Klein Curacao Boat Trip Overview: What To Expect

If you’re heading to Klein Curacao, get ready to start early in the morning.  Your full day adventure will start with a boat trip that lasts about 1 to 2 hours each way depending on your boat (unless you take a fast powerboat, which is a 40 minute option). Given the trip length, selecting a comfortable boat is critical.

A very important thing to remember: The seas can get a bit rough, especially on the way there, so make sure to take some seasickness medicine before you set off. You don’t want to spend the whole trip feeling queasy, or worse yet getting sick overboard.

Boat trips to Klein Curacao leave so early in the morning, you’re likely to be hungry when you arrive. Luckily, the best boat tours include either breakfast sandwiches on the boat, or a buffet breakfast on arrival.

Once you arrive at Klein island Curacao, get ready for an amazing beach with crystal clear water.  The white sand on the Klein Curacao beach is post-card perfect; the water the kind of turquoise of summer dreams. Soak up the sun, take a dip, and relax on the soft sand. It’s beach paradise – and the calm, shallow waters are great for kids.

Another important thing to know: You’re going to be at the beach, in the sun, all day.  There are only two tour providers that have beach houses on the island, which offer shade, showers, and a comfortable, cool place to take a break from the sun.  For that reason alone, we think Miss Ann and Mermaid Boat Trips are the two best boat trip to Klein Curacao options.

Klein Curacao Boat Trip

Snorkeling fans will be amazed too. You’ll see all sorts of cool stuff right off the beach here, with the water clear enough to see the fish from the surface. The conditions are fit for teaching kids to snorkel, and you’re likely to see sea turtles.

If you’re not into exploring, get a beach massage while the rest of your friends or family is underwater!

While you’re exploring, don’t forget to check out the abandoned Klein Curacao lighthouse and shipwreck. They are each about a 10-15 minute walk, so make sure to wear shoes. These neat sights give you a glimpse into the island’s history.

Speaking of exploring: Don’t expect to have cell phone reception or Wi-Fi on Klein Curacao. Plan this boat trip to Klein Curacao on a day when you can really unplug and enjoy the peacefulness of nature. We highly recommend bringing a portable charger for your phone so you don’t run out of battery while you’re trying to capture the beauty of the island.

A BBQ lunch will be included in your trip, too, so you don’t have to worry about bringing your own food. The best boat trip to Klein Curacao providers will also include water and non-alcoholic beverages. Many include rum punch and beer too.  Just make sure you know what’s included when you book.

Finally, you’ll wrap up your day with a sail back to Curacao.  Most boats leave around 4pm, getting you back by dinner time.  You’ll climb into bed happy, tired, and having made some incredible beach memories on Klein Curacao.

What to Bring to Klein Curacao

Even with a luxury tour provide, your day trip to Klein Curacao will involve a lot of time out on in the sun. It’s important to pack the essentials to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience.  Once you’ve booked your boat to Klein island Curacao, get your beach bag ready with these must-have items:

Towels:  Most boat companies don’t provide towels, so grab some from your hotel.

Sunscreen: Klein Curacao is known for its pristine white sandy beaches and abundant sunshine, so packing a high SPF sunscreen is crucial to protect your skin from the strong tropical rays.

Hat and sunglasses: Along with sunscreen, bring a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses to shield your face and eyes from the intense sun.

Change of clothing: I don’t need to tell you to bring your most stylish swimsuit, as you may end up in lots of photos.  But also remember: After a long day of swimming, you’ll feel much more comfortable on the boat ride home in clean, dry clothes.

Fins: Klein Curacao offers fantastic snorkeling opportunities, and nearly all tours include snorkels and masks – but not fins.  You don’t need fins, as the waters are shallow and easy to navigate. But if you want a full snorkel experience, consider packing your own.

Water shoes: The ocean floor near the shore can be rocky, so having water shoes or reef shoes can protect your feet while walking into the water.

Beach bag or waterproof backpack: A beach bag or a waterproof backpack is useful for carrying your essentials, such as your sunscreen, towel, camera, snacks, and personal belongings.

Kid-friendly snacks: Your tour provider has food and drinks covered, but you may want to pack a familiar snacks for your kids if they don’t like the offerings.  Your options will be limited to what your boat tour provider offers, and you do not want to be stuck with hungry kids on a deserted island.

Cash: Although tours include amenities and meals, it’s advisable to bring some cash in case you need to purchase drinks or for tipping.

Camera or waterproof phone case: Klein Curacao’s picturesque landscapes and vibrant marine life make it a prime spot for photography. Don’t forget to bring your camera or use a waterproof case for your phone to capture the beautiful scenery and unforgettable moments.
