Why we like it for families

  • The atmosphere. Come to Dominica to experience the lush, rugged landscape of this still undiscovered Caribbean gem, with waterfalls, hiking, volcanoes, and more. Stay at Pagua Bay to retreat at the end of each day to a comfortable boutique hotel with an on-site restaurant, fantastic cocktails, luxurious linens, and heavenly rain showers. Rest up and get ready for your next day of exploring.
  • The property. Perched on a seaside hill, every room at Pagua Bay has an ocean view, and the sound of crashing waves will lull you and your little ones to sleep. The cottages surround a well-maintained lawn where kids can run freely and safely – and a steady ocean breeze prevents overheating.
  • The people. Traveler reviews uniformly rave about Alicia and Rick, the owners of Pagua Bay House, who will be a resource each day to help you coordinate a fantastic adventure. From road maps to reservations to hiking suggestions, you’ll be in good hands.
  • The pool. Pagua Bay’s pool is small but well-appointed. It’s a great place to start and end the day with kids. Pool chairs sit right in the water on a wide, shallow platform. Mom and dad can relax while the little ones splash around at your feet.

Location and Activities

Pagua Bay House is located on Dominica’s northeast coast, less than 10 minutes from Dominica’s Charles-Douglas Airport.

We encourage you to rent a car to explore Dominica’s rainforest, beaches, hiking trails and waterfalls. Driving can be a little intimidating for some on the windy island roads, though, so take it slow.

The Discover Dominica website has great ideas for kid-friendly activities and restaurants in Dominica. You can also check with the Pagua Bay House concierge.

  • Pagua Bay is only 10 minutes from the airport, so you’ll quickly be able to settle into your room after a long day of travel. That said, Dominica is a big island and Pagua Bay can be 30-60 minutes by car to some of the main sights. Be prepared to explore by car.
  • The hotel has 4 cabanas, 2 suites with outdoor living areas, and one 2-bedroom cottage. Each room is uniquely designed and appointed with modern finishings, and most have hammocks for ultimate relaxation. They are all near each other, surrounding the lawn.
  • The main house is where you will find the reception desk and open-air bar and restaurant. Ingredients for the restaurant’s menu are sourced from the hotel’s own greenhouse and local farmers. Try the house specialty cocktail, the Centipede Rum Punch.
  • Like the rooms, the restaurant and pool overlook the crashing waves. Although this property is beachfront, it’s not a swimming beach for small children. You’re not far from Dominica’s more child-friendly beaches, although you’ll have to drive to them. That said, if you’re lucky, you may see whales in the bay over breakfast.

Traveler Reviews

My family loved our time at Pagua Bay House. This boutique hotel is laid back luxury at its best. . . A safe, quiet, and gorgeous place to unwind and take a real vacation. We can’t wait to return and recommend to anyone who is tired of the same old resorts with the same old amenities.

Owners Alicia & Rick have created an oasis on an enchanted island. Pagua Bay is absolutely stunning, and when you stay in one of their cabanas you have a front row view! The main house, stars a fantastic restaurant and bar, friendly staff and open air/poolside seating. The accommodations are well appointed and each one is unique. We stayed in Cabana 6 with the huge soaking tub and separate rain shower which is absolutely delightful. Our two older teens stayed in Cabana 5 with a private pool! I can’t say enough about the hospitality and friendliness we found at Pagua Bay House, we are already planning our return trip!
