Why we like it for families

Family-Friendly Luxury. Kamalame Cay is an exclusive hideout, to be sure. Private villas, golf carts for every guest, and direct access to a 3-mile long private beach that rivals any the Bahamas has to offer. But the hotel is family-owned and it shows in the resort’s welcoming vibe. Rooms are understated, shoes optional, and everyone is calm. The minute you see the pool overflowing with brightly colored floats, you’ll have no doubt your kids are welcome here.
The Kid-Friendly Grounds. Words can barely describe this special property, which covers 96 acres. Kamalame Cay is a long, thin private island. Each bungalow and villa sits steps from the beach. When you drive your personal golf cart to the pool (which your kids will love) you may notice that your kids disappear (in a good way). The island has no cars, nowhere for them to get in trouble, and facilitates independent play. They will have no choice but to connect with nature, make friends at the pool, or spend hours on end playing with hermit crabs in the sand.
The Vibe. You will disconnect here: No wi-fi or TV in the rooms. Wake up with your kids to watch the sunrise. Mosey slowly down to the restaurant for breakfast or dinner. However long you stay at Kamalame Cay, you will feel like you have nowhere to be, no schedule to keep. Stress will melt away, for you and your kids.
The Food. Kamalame Cay offers a gourmet dining experience. Kids will love the daily delivery of fresh cookies to each room, and the homemade ice cream. Adults will love the traditional Bahamian curry dishes offered at dinner, and the fresh conch salad by the pool at lunch.

Location and Activities

Kamalame Cay is a private island resort on the barrier island of Andros. Andros is Bahamas’ biggest island, sitting just a 15-minute flight west of Nassau.

Getting to Kamalame Cay takes an investment, either in time or funds. There are a few different ways to do it. The most economical way is to fly directly to Nassau on a commercial airline and to take a 15-minute (easy but unairconditioned) domestic flight on Le Air to Fresh Creek, Andros. A 25-minute taxi will have you at the entrance to Kamalame Cay.

At a higher price point, there are a number of charter seaplane and boat options that will take you from Nassau to Andros.

Alternatively, skip Nassau altogether an opt for a seaplane or charter jet straight from Fort Lauderdale or Miami to Andros, about a 45-minute flight. All the options are described on the Kamalame Cay website.

However you choose to arrive on Andros, Kamalame Cay will assist you with the transportation needed to arrive on its immaculate white sand shores.

You’ll arrive at one end of Kamalame Cay on a small private ferry. Walk to reception, which doubles as a high-end gift shop and the island’s only reliable wi-fi hub, and you’ll be handed the keys to your own private golf cart.
We should echo that the rooms have no TVs or wi-fi, so you’ll need to come armed with an international data plan or an intent to unplug an relax
Drive the long stretch of island until you get to your bungalow or villa, feasting your eyes on the tropical greenery along the route. You won’t have a beach view on the drive, but instead will see the tidal flat that separates Kamalame Cay from Andrew. One moment, it’ll look like a stretch of sand you could walk on. The next time you drive by, it will will be filled with turquoise waters. Don’t miss kayaking or paddle boarding on the side of the island during low and high tides to get two totally different experiences.
Each room boasts a chic white and wood interior. Plush beds and minimalist touches create a fresh earthy vibe. Bungalows facing the beach are total eye candy. Each room has a fridge, a mini-bar, a balcony/patio and an awesome outdoor shower among other amenities.
The beach in-front of the bungalows is delightful, though some areas may get a little rough for small children. But there is an especially calm area of beach right near the pool. In short, there’s a beach vibe for every kind of swimmer here, it’s just a matter of finding the right spot along the three-mile stretch of sand.
Kamalame Cay has two restaurants. Breakfast and dinner are served at The Great House, while lunch is offered at the stylish, alfresco poolside Tiki Bar. Kamalame Cay’s gastronomy is centered on fresh local ingredients taking into consideration the sustainability and protecting the Great Barrier Reef. Kamalame Cay also does not fall short on excellent wine, spirits, champagnes and signature drinks, so be sure to stop at the Monkey Bar inside the Great House.
A light breakfast basket is delivered to your room each morning – but with kids, don’t depend on it, because it often runs late. If your kids are hungry, better to head to the Great House for a full breakfast.
You can choose whether to pay for food a la carte or go with an all-inclusive package. But the reality is, once you get to Kamalame Cay, you’re unlikely to want to leave the property much for dining (nor is there much else around) so you might as well go with all-inclusive.
Do not miss the overwater spa – a totally unique experience. Your massage will be next to a huge window overlooking the ocean, and if you’re lucky you may see a stingray pass you by. There’s a viewing hole in the floor to allow ocean gazing during your massage.
There’s a dive shop on-site, and amazing snorkeling and diving offered nearby. The excursions here are pricey, but private, and the cost goes down the larger your group.
For families with kids and in need of cribs, or highchairs and babysitting services, Kamalame Cay can provide them all.

I have traveled extensively and stayed at some of the nicest resorts. This wins hands down. It usually takes me one day to decompress from a hectic work schedule. As soon as you get on the little ferry to the resort you are instantly relaxed. The bungalows are perfect. That’s is you enjoying being steps away from the ocean. The beach is perfect and we felt (group of 8) like it was our own private island. In the bungalow you have an outdoor shower. We never turned on the Inside shower. The staff is amazing and rivals any four seasons / Ritz experience. The food. One word – Amazing. The drinks were fabulous too.This is not a mega resort , so if that is your thing it may not be for you. If you are looking for a laid back resort with amazing service , food, and bungalows this is. We will definitely be back. 10 out of 10.

I just got back from our annual family trip, and had yet another magical experience. I have been visiting with my family for the last 5 years , so its like our paradise home away from home. Every time we go there is some new activity or added detail to enjoy besides the pristine beaches and water activities, there is now a movie night where you can enjoy a fun film in comfy loungers under the stars. The sunset beach is also a new fun hang out and perfect place to paddle board or enjoy a glass of wine while enjoying a beautiful Sunset. The new Monkey Bar is a cool hang out for cocktails and socializing. The entire staff is vaccinated and they make the requisite Covid testing for re entry to the US a snap with nurses that come right to you before departure. That was a bonus for us Cant wait til our next trip back!
