Why we like it for families

  • The Location. We recently fell in love with Bonaire as a family travel destination, and think Bonaire is a fantastic island to take the kids. Harbour Village is a comfortable and calm home base for exploring this small island.
  • The People. We love hotels that feel personal, and when the staff remembers your kids’ names and breakfast choices, it’s a big plus on our books. Harbour Village stands out for its kind, attentive, and all-around pleasant people. We felt welcomed the minute we walked up to the property gates.
  • The Beach and Snorkeling. The wide beach at Harbour Village – the only private beach on Bonaire – never feels crowded. There are plenty of palm trees to create shade, hammocks, and beach loungers. As you explore the island, you’ll always feel calm coming home to the oases that is the Harbour Village beach. Step into the water with your snorkeling mask and you’ll be blown away – you’re seconds away from some of the island’s best snorkeling.
  • The Kid-Friendly Grounds. With only 43 rooms, Harbour Village feels like an intimate resort, and everything is very close. Kids of all ages can comfortably and safely roam the beach, or walk from room to restaurant. Shoes are required in the restaurant, but there are a handful of tables right on the beach – some days, you may find your kids never put on shoes. The property will make your kids feel right at home.
  • The Waterfront Restaurant. The restaurant at Harbour Village, La Balandra, sits on a dining terrace that extends over the water next to the beach. The food is good, but the atmosphere is worth writing home about. Looking down from the dining terrace, you’ll spot pops of color from the reef fish swimming near shore, and see local crabs jumping from rock to rock. Each morning, share your breakfast with pelicans as they fish nearby. These natural wonders will endlessly entertain the kids at mealtime, allowing you extra moments of relaxation.
  • The Spacious Rooms. The beachfront suites at Harbour Village are wonderful for families. Each suite has either one or two bedrooms, with a pull-out couch in the living room. Not only spacious, the suites are steps from the beach and pool, making it easy to pop back to the room for naps or forgotten items.

Location and Activities

Harbour Village Beach Clube is 11 minutes away from Bonaire International Airport. It’s centrally located, just a few minutes drive from Kralendijk. You can dive and snorkel right offshore.

We recommend renting a car in Bonaire to explore the island’s beaches and the town. Driving is easy, and a car can be rented at the airport without much trouble.

  • Harbour Village Beach Club is located on a peninsula that juts out near a marina. No matter where you are on the property, Bonaire’s aquamarine waters are nearby.
  • On arrival, you’ll walk down a tree-lined path on the grounds to the small reception area, where you’ll be greeted with a welcome drink. The staff will make every attempt to get to know you right from the beginning.
  • The resort map on Harbour Village’s website is extremely helpful for getting a lay of the land, as it shows where each set of rooms is located. As you’ll see below, we recommend the beachfront suites as the best rooms for families, located in buildings C and D. Alternatively, if you’re interested in a kitchenette and marina view, you can opt for the Harbour Villas in building F. (Some of the Harbour Village suites have full kitchens, but it depends on the building and availability. If a kitchen is important to you, you could certainly request a kitchen, but they are not guaranteed.)
  • La Balandra Bar & Restaurant is a highlight of Harbour Village. The food is good, the atmosphere phenomenal. Designed to look like an antique ship, the dining area extends out into the water. Look over the edge and you’ll get a glimpse of Bonaire’s wildlife: reef fish, jumping crabs, and pelicans fishing. La Balandra has a kids’ menu and a happy hour.
  • Once you’ve grabbed a drink at the bar, stroll down the beach. The water is especially calm here in the morning and evenings, creating an idyllic environment for a sunset snorkel.
  • Just past the beach, near the beachfront suites, is the salt-water swimming pool. Unlike many major Caribbean resorts, the pool is not the centerpiece here – it’s the beach where you’ll spend most of your time. But the courtyard pool absolutely does the trick when the kids need a break from the sand.
  • If you don’t bring your own snorkel, you can easily rent a great one at the on-site dive shop.
  • Finally, Harbour Village has a spa and fitness center, where a second pool is also hidden, offering a secluded space to take a break from the kids.
  • ** A note about babysitting. Although Harbour Village does not formally arrange babysitter, a staff member graciously put us in contact with an excellent and trustworthy. If you decide to stay at Harbour Village, we’d be happy to put you in touch.

Traveler Reviews

We fell in love with Bonaire while spending 4 days at Harbour Village Beach Resort. The one-bedroom suites are exactly what families need, and the calm beach is fantastic for kids. The staff went out of their way to learn the names of our kids, and to help us arrange a trustworthy babysitter so we could take advantage of the island’s diving. The snorkeling right off the Harbour Village beach is some of the best we’ve experience in the Caribbean. And the whole family never tired of the pelicans entertaining us at breakfast in the morning. We loved the hotel more each day we stayed there and were sad to leave. If you get the chance to go to Bonaire with your kids and to stay here, do it!

We (family with kids of 14 and 16) spent two weeks in this fantastic place. Our spacious room had direct access to the private beach. An incredibly beautiful beach, with lots of palm trees (always enough shadow) and always enough beds, chairs or hammocks available. It just never seemed to be busy, which was great for relaxation. The house coral reef was great, and to be honest I saw more variety of fish there than anywhere else on the island (sting ray, tarpon, barracuda, octopus, turtle, morene, lion fish, etc, etc,). Happy hour (5-7) was a feast, with such amazing sunset, beach ball, and a cool breeze. . . . We have seen a lot on the island, and visited the many amazing places, but every time we came back to our beach at Harbour Beach we felled blessed to be back in our own Paradise. You will love it!
