Sunset Key is a private island that be reached in just a short a seven-minute shuttle boat ride from Key West, giving you easy access but a quiet retreat. The shuttle boat dock is 10 minutes away from the Key West International Airport.
Even though Sunset Key Cottages are only minutes away from the Key West International Airport, the secluded, private island location will make you feel like you’ve traveled halfway around the world. Your adventure at Sunset Key Cottages begins by checking in at the resort’s sister property, Opal Key Resort and Marina, in Key West. Once you’ve arrived on Sunset Key, courtesy of a quick boat shuttle from Opal Key, you’ll discover a resort beautifully designed with lush palms and greenery, with the cottages featuring endearing touches and breathtaking views tucked away among the colorful bougainvillea and orchids that dot the island.
The pool sits at the center of the island, with cottages spreading out around it. The whole place feels quiet, spacious, but also manageable with less than four dozen cottages.
The Victorian design, especially the classic seaside decor, gives the island a sense of heritage, with a relaxed but elegant ambience. The cottage interiors feature chic pastel-colored woodwork furnishings, and a beach-inspired azure, white, and brown color scheme are all features of the cottages’ interiors.
The accommodations come in five different room types: one-, two-, three-, and four-bedroom cottages, as well as a luxury three-bedroom. Every unit includes a wraparound porch or patio with Adirondack lounge chairs, a separate living area, and a state-of-the-art kitchen. The bedding and robes are incredibly comfy, and the cottages have a lovely beach vibe. The bathroom amenities are superb and the stunning beach views are completely unhindered.
Families will have plenty of opportunities to taste the island life at Sunset Key Cottages. Each morning, a breakfast basket packed with fruit and pastries is delivered to your cottage. Plus, keep an eye out for the “Sweets Served Daily” bell, which signals the daily ice cream delivery to both kids and adults!. For dinner, head over to Latitudes to savor their elegant, award-winning surf and turf cuisine. You can also relax with a tropical beverage at Flipper’s Pool Bar throughout the day. But if the kids are feeling tired and cranky after a long day of beach and pool action, you can always dine in your cottage by either requesting room service or cooking your own meals in the cottage’s kitchen.
If you’re looking for water-based excursions, you’ll find jet ski tours, parasailing, and even deep sea fishing on site.
Sunset Key Cottages has two full-size tennis courts on the property, with complimentary racquets and balls available, along with a half basketball court.
For some serene, no-kids downtime, the on-site spa is available for a personalized wellness experience.
Don’t waste your time searching for rates and availability. We can handle it (and love it!), at no additional cost to you.
This is THE place to go if you are traveling to Key West! We traveled with our 4 young children and stayed in a private beachfront villa. The beach was beautiful, the room service food was excellent (a plus when you have 4 little kids along for the trip), the rooms were clean, comfortable, and well decorated. Our children loved the tennis, volleyball, and basketball courts. The island itself was SO serene, peaceful and relaxing! We felt safe there and let our 9 and 11 year old sons freely walk the island, which we DO NOT even allow at home. The resort ferry runs like clock work every 30 mins, and it is a beautiful 6 min ferry ride to the main land where all the bars, shops and museums are.We travel fairly often and this is by far our best family vacation yet! If you choose any other place in Key West, I would bet a lot it won’t compare to Sunset Key!! We cannot wait to return 😉

Great Christmas Trip We had 7 of us staying in the 3 bedroom cottage: 3 -girls (22, 19, 18) 2 -boys (15, 16) along with my wife and I. The cottages are great and the island is wonderful. We took advantage of the ferry that runs back and forth to Key West and it was very easy. The daily basket of breakfast treats along with the nightly basket of waters/juices was perfect! Along with the morning pastries that were delivered, we made breakfast every morning and could have used some additional cooking utensils. The pool area was great and we enjoyed the poolside bar. Latitudes Restaurant is amazing and all the staffs on the island are great. Absolutely loved this trip and can’t wait to come back.
