Why we like it for families

  • An Intimate Resort Experience. Off The Wall is far from your typical Caribbean resort experience. All guests stay for a full week (Sat to Sat) in one of only five cabanas on the private island. You’ll be treated like family by owners Jim and Kendra, and have the chance to get to know the staff, especially during mealtimes. Off the Wall’s meals, which are included in the price, highlight freshly made Belizean cuisine and are served family-style for both guests and staff.
  • The Sea Life. You travel to Off the Wall to be in the ocean. The resort itself sits atop Glover’s Reef Atoll, a coral reef that circles a crystal-clear lagoon. This setting offers countless opportunities for its guests to get up close and personal with marine life. Inside the lagoon are over 700 patch reefs available for exploration; the snorkeling at Glover’s Reef Atoll is considered some of the best in the Caribbean.
  • Quality Family Time. Although Off the Wall has Wi-Fi, the whole point of coming to this kind of resort is to leave the screens at home. Without TVs or the usual internet-related distractions, families have the chance to reconnect with one another through conversation, cards, and one-of-a-kind ocean experiences.
  • Calm Beach.  At first glance, families with young children might be wary of Off the Wall’s adventure-centric vibe – and its lack of a pool – but the warm, shallow waters are a great draw for little ones. Plus kids of any age will love playing Wildlife Explorer (like Russell from Up!) while on land and at sea.

**Off the Wall welcomes families with kids of all ages, but we recommend saving this special island experience for kids old enough to swim and snorkel. Please note that Off the Wall has rustic cabanas, shared toilets and outdoor rain showers for guests — a true off-the-grid experience.

Location and Activities

Getting to Off the Wall requires a journey – a 20-minute flight from the Belize International Airport (Philip S. W. Goldson International Airport), followed by a 90-minute boat ride to the private island getaway. But the family running the resort makes it as easy as possible for you.

All stays at Off the Wall are a Saturday-to-Saturday seven-day experience. Book your 20-minute regional flight to Dangriga Airport and the hotel takes it from there. You will be greeted at the airport, transferred to the marina, and ferried off to paradise. They’ll take you back the following Saturday for the return leg.

  • The adventure vibe at Off the Wall Dive Center and Resort starts with your journey to this unique, private-island eco-resort. The boat trip from Dangriga to Off the Wall’s private island takes about 90 minutes. Once you arrive, you’ll see why your extended journey was 100% worth it.
  • The 5 rustic cabanas at Off the Wall are each 20 feet from the Caribbean Sea and are equipped with the basic amenities you need for a good night’s sleep. The beds, while basic, have Posturepedic mattresses and soft, cotton linens. The breeze will keep you cool and the mosquito nets comfortable. Please note that due to the resort’s remote location and eco-friendly practices, the facilities may not be the same as what you or the kids are used to back home. The shared toilets have a composting design, and rainwater showers are only available outdoors. Cottages include yoga mats, bath and beach towels, purified drinking water, and a private thatched beach umbrella and lounge chairs.
  • Room rates include meals, coffee, tea, juice, and purified water. Local beers, soda, Chilean wine, and rum are all available for purchase. Family style dining takes place under a huge beachfront Palapa with a thatched roof and sand floor. You’ll feast on delicious Belizean meals, including fresh seafood, locally grown veggies and herbs, tropical fruits, daily baked breads and tortillas, and delightful desserts.
  • You’re in for first-class snorkeling or SCUBA diving at Off the Wall. As a PADI International 5 Star Gold Palm Dive Center and Resort, Off the Wall provides a selection of diving courses and packages to suit everyone from beginner to experienced divers. You’ll also have endless snorkeling right from the beach. Bring your own gear or rent it all on-site. Guided snorkeling excursions are offered once a day for a small extra fee.
  • Other available activities at Off the Wall include kayaking, hiking on a nature trail, and stargazing. Relax on a beach hammock while soaking up the rays.
  • Massages are offered in a small studio, or in your cabana.

Where do we begin?! Our stay on Glovers Reef was incredible. If you love eco-lodges, this is for you, with rainwater showers and compost loos which don’t make you feel like you’re compromising on luxury at all. We stayed in an unbelievable sea front cabana, the sea breeze our AC. We rose with the dawn and slept in the dark. . . .I think that this island would be wonderful for people with small children because the seas and warm and shallow and there are so many fish!! Any small kids will be completely entranced and allowed to roam completely wild with no worries at all which is a serious rarity! Just for the life – the fish! – under the dock, I would recommend Off the Wall wholeheartedly: it may be the central sliver of this beautiful island, but it is by far the most beautiful, the most fun to stay with. Not only are Jim and Kendra a lovely couple, they are deeply concerned with everyone’s holiday being the absolute BEST it can be. Kendra has somehow managed to make a scant sandbar feel lush – being there felt like the world began and ended with salt resistant plants, iguanas, hermit crabs and my dive kit. Please stay there now!!!

The most amazing family vacation ever We are a family of 5, two adults and three children. We stayed last year in the family cabin and had the most amazing vacation that we are going back this year. Our kids were 16, 14 and 11 last year. There is no wifi or TV or anything like that and that is why the place is so special. You get to talk and share stories, play cards, laugh and spend time together. No one is checking their phones or posting or watching TV. The place is pure paradise. We are an active family and we love water sports. My husband and two younger sons got certified while we were there. My eldest and I got certified in Thailand the year before. The diving and snorkelling are indescribable. You can swim with rays and sharks right off the dock. The diving is crystal clear and you see so many vibrant things – I can’t even describe it. This is only the place for you is you crave and enjoy quiet company, laughter, fishing and swimming without the technology that robs us of face time most of the time. Kendra and Jim are lovely fun people, Tyrone is a fabulous divemaster, Junior drives the boat. The food was good. The nights of sleep were deep and restful. I tell people about this and the first thing they say is I can’t live without wifi or a TV. That’s sad. This place is real and amazing and seeing stars at night without ambient light is something everyone should get to see – not just on their TV or screen. It is the most amazing place we have ever been to. I hope it stays like this for a long time.
