Why we like it for families

  • The Location: Martinhal Lisbon Chiado puts you right in the middle of everything. It’s smack dab in the heart of Lisbon, in the family-friendly Chiado neighborhood, where some of the best sites, shops, and restaurants are only steps away. Stroll out the door and dive straight into the city. We recommend Martinhal Chiado for families who want to be close to the action when exploring Lisbon with kids.
  • The Spacious Rooms: The rooms at Martinhal Lisbon Chiado set it apart as a top family-friendly hotel in Lisbon. If you don’t want to cram into a tiny European hotel room with your kids, you’ll be delighted by the seriously spacious 1- and 2-bedroom apartments. Each room has a fully equipped kitchenette for easy meals and snacks on the go, plus washers and dryers to keep everyone’s clothes fresh. You’ll feel like you actually live in Lisbon and will be excited to come home to your home base at night.
  • The Kids’ Club: Having a hotel in Lisbon with a Kids’ Club here is a total game-changer, especially if t you have younger kids. They have everything from a baby gym and nap room for the littlest ones to arts and crafts, games, and even a mini disco for the 3-and-up crowd. If you’re craving an adult dinner out at one of Lisbon’s Michelin-starred gems, your kids can enjoy dinner, a movie, and popcorn at the Pyjama Club while you treat yourself to a date night in the city.
  • The Little Details: It’s clear that a parent was involved in crafting the little details that delight guests on arrival at Martinhal Chiado. You might find a footstool in your bathroom so kids can reach the sink, little kid-size flip-flops, and stuffed animals to bring home. The hotel’s baby concierge can help you pre-book other items like bottle warmers, potties, and baby bathtubs if you have an infant along with you.
  • The Flexbility: What makes the Martinhal Chiado our top family hotel in Lisbon is the flexibility it offers. Thanks to its central location and the fantastic Kids’ Club, you can explore Lisbon in bite-sized chunks that match your kids’ pace. No need to feel pressured to pack everything into one day; you can head out for a bit of sightseeing, then easily pop back into the hotel and drop your kids off for a break. You won’t feel sad to return to a small hotel room but happy to relax in your city-center European apartment.

Location and Activities

Martinhal Lisbon Chiado is a quick 25-minute drive from the Humberto Delgado Airpot (LIS), so you’ll settle in and be ready to explore in no time. The hotel’s central location makes it easy to get around by metro or bus, and you’re within walking distance (or a short tuk-tuk ride) to the top Lisbon neighborhoods like Chiado, Baixa, and Bairro Alto.

At Martinhal Lisbon Chiado, you’ll also be perfectly placed for day trips outside of Lisbon. By train, you can reach coastal Cascais in 45 minutes or the fairytale palaces and lush gardens of Sintra in 1 hour. And don’t miss the ride on Tram 15 to Belem, where a strategic defensive tower and gargoyle-filled monastery await.

  • Start your trip off with an easy, private transfer arranged by the hotel, where car seats are guaranteed. After a short drive, you can comfortably arrive at Martinhal Lisbon Chiado – perched midway up a steep street that feels like classic Lisbon in the vibrant Chiado district.
  • Once you walk through the hotel doors, you and your children will be completely taken care of. Check-in is a breeze, and the arrival experience is thoughtfully designed with families in mind. Expect to find your spacious room stocked with little touches like fruit, juice, milk, and cookies, perfect after a long journey, plus a gift or two to win over your kids from the start.
  • The family-friendly suites feature colorful decor that’s both cheerful and welcoming. Large windows flood the space with natural light, creating a bright and airy atmosphere. The beds are comfortable, and the rooms are toddler-friendly.
  • If you don’t mind sharing sleeping space with your kids, the studios are an affordable option for experiencing this hotel. But what makes this hotel shine is the ability to book a one—or two-bedroom apartment-style room in Lisbon. The spacious apartments really do feel like a home away from home, offering plenty of room to spread out and relax.
  • The on-site restaurant has a lot of options for kids (like the universally-loved pasta) but also local dishes for parents. One of the highlights of Bar 1855 Gin & Wine is the vintage car parked inside the restaurant, which doubles as a fun play area. Kids will ask to go back to the “car restaurant” long after you’re gone. At night, the restaurant transforms into a stylish gin bar.
  • Most rates include complimentary breakfast, which can be taken in the restaurant buffet style or brought in boxes to your room if you have an excursion planned or want a lazy morning.
  • Chances are, you’ll want to explore food beyond the hotel restaurant, and Martinhal Chiado sets you up for success on that front. Just a short walk away is the Time Out Market, Lisbon’s best food hall, which is very family-friendly and also next to a park with a playground and cafe. Or, when you drop your kids off at the Kids’ Club for movie night, head to one of the cuter wine bars or cafes that dot the streets of Chiado.
  • The fantatsic Kids’ Club is hands-down a reason you should swipe right on this hotel. You can even hire a babysitter to bring them upstairs and put them to bed after the kids’ club evening events to seamlessly transition to a night out. Babysitting can be arranged any time you need it at an additional cost.
  • Lastly, parents, let this be your reminder to teach your children about bidets before you arrive so your little ones don’t start happily playing in their “toddler sink” while you unpack.

Traveler Reviews

The perfect place for families with young children What a find! I was traveling with my daughter and her three children, ages six, four and nine months. Staying here really made our vacation. Everything you could possibly want for your child is here. The rooms are set up with kids in mind. Porta cribs, high chairs, potty seats, you name it. It’s clean and comfortable. We had breakfast delivered to our full kitchen every day which made life so easy with three small children. We were able to order exactly what we wanted every day. My older grandchildren enjoyed the kids club immensely and couldn’t wait to go back to the disco night. We also used one of the hotels babysitters for two nights and she was excellent. I can’t recommend this place highly enough.

Amazing stay with kids Can’t recommend this hotel highly enough for those traveling with kids. Between the kids club and evening babysitting services, my husband and I actually got to enjoy some couple time in Lisbon. It was a revelation. The staff was friendly, professional, and flexible. Thank you so much, we’ll be back!
