Why we like it for families

  • The Sense of Place: You’re not just visiting Dominica at Jungle Bay – you’re living it. Jungle Bay’s hillside cottages feel like sophisticated treehouses, perched in the jungle with ocean views stretching for miles. You’ll wake up to birdsong, fall asleep to the sounds of the jungle, and spend your days immersed in nature. For kids, it’s an adventure – like sleeping in a magical fort. For parents, it’s a seamless blend of comfort and eco-luxury. From the moment you arrive, you’ll feel the island’s energy all around you.
  • The Location: On Dominica’s stunning southwest coast, Jungle Bay feels secluded, but never inconvenient. In Soufriere, it’s close enough for easy access to the island’s top adventures, yet far enough to feel like a true escape. This is the perfect home base for hiking to waterfalls, snorkeling at Champagne Reef, kayaking to Bubble Beach, and tackling the Boiling Lake trail. You’ll feel like you’ve found a hidden paradise, but you’re never far from the action.
  • The Activities: There’s no such thing as “nothing to do” at Jungle Bay. On-site, you’ll find yoga classes, two pools, and cooking classes using ingredients grown steps from your room. Off-site, the possibilities are plenty – snorkeling, scuba diving, hot sulfur baths, hikes through volcanic landscapes, and even the chance to swim with sperm whales. Jungle Bay’s tour guides are some of the best on the island, making every excursion even better than you’d hoped. If adventure is your thing (and food), upgrade to the all-inclusive Adventure and Wellness package – it includes organic meals, guided tours, massages and airport transfers.
  • The Grounds: You don’t just stay at Jungle Bay—you live in a tropical garden. The 55-acre property is bursting with fruit trees, colorful flowers, and dense greenery. The 35 cottages are tucked into the hillside, blending into the jungle while offering complete privacy. Kids love spotting lizards and tropical birds along the garden paths. And if the uphill walks feel like a workout, golf carts are always available. Whether you’re by the pools, on your balcony, or strolling the trails, you’ll find a quiet spot to soak it all in.
  • The Staff: Travelers consistently rave that the people at Jungle Bay make this place feel like home. From the moment you arrive, the staff treats you like family—warm, welcoming, and eager to share their island. Chef Joanne, who has been crafting meals here for two decades, makes sure every dish is fresh, flavorful, and tailored to your family’s preferences. The guides know every hidden gem on the island, making each adventure more than just an activity—it’s an experience.
  • Eco-Friendly Approach: Sustainability isn’t a marketing phrase here—it’s part of daily life. You’ll see it in the organic gardens that supply your meals, the biodegradable body products in your room, and the handcrafted bamboo furniture made right on the island. Kids can learn about local agriculture on the garden tour, tasting fruit straight from the trees. Jungle Bay makes it easy to embrace eco-luxury in a way that feels natural, not forced.

Location and Activities

Jungle Bay sits on Dominica’s lush southwest coast, about 1 hour and 20 minutes from Douglas-Charles Airport (DOM). For those preferring shorter transfers, fly to Martinique or Guadeloupe and take the ferry to Roseau, which is less than 20 minutes from the resort.

The resort is tucked between the jungle and the sea, with both fresh ocean breezes and nature sounds at your doorstep. Despite feeling remote, Soufriere, with its exceptional diving sites, sits just minutes away. If you aren’t including the Adventure and Wellness package in your stay, make sure you rent a car to fully explore the island’s treasures.

  • Arriving at Jungle Bay, you’ll know immediately you made the right choice. The warmest welcome, fresh passion fruit juice in hand, and those Caribbean views stretching for miles. The resort feels effortlessly woven into the landscape—35 cottages scattered across the hillside, connected by lush, winding paths. Every corner of the property feels peaceful and private, yet never too far from the action.
  • Staying at Jungle Bay is like sleeping in a luxury treehouse. Each private cottage is built into the hillside, maximizing views and privacy. Inside, the design is simple but intentional—bamboo furnishings, hand-painted bedding by local artisans, and biodegradable bath products that reflect the resort’s eco-conscious philosophy. Every room has a private balcony, perfect for morning coffee with the sounds of the jungle all around you.
  • For families, the Villa Suite is the best pick. At 800 square feet, it has a king bed, a chaise lounge, and space to add a bed for a child. The outdoor rain shower is a standout—letting you rinse off under the open sky. If you want to minimize uphill walks, request a unit closer to the main lodge. Higher-up cottages have the best views, but golf carts are always available if needed.
  • The Pavilion restaurant is all about fresh, local, and flavorful. Jungle Bay follows a strict farm-to-table and boat-to-table philosophy, with every ingredient sourced from the island. Breakfast is buffet-style, while lunch and dinner rotate through an à la carte menu packed with just-caught seafood, tropical fruits, and bold Caribbean flavors.
  • Chef Joanne, who has been here for two decades, creates meals that feel personal—simple, fresh, and made with care. Vegetarian options are always available, and the kitchen is happy to accommodate dietary needs. Foodies should definitely join the weekly cooking class, where you’ll learn how to recreate the flavors of Dominica back home.
  • Jungle Bay is made for families who love adventure. On-site, there’s yoga with ocean views, two stunning pools, and a hot tub perfect for unwinding after a day of exploring. Off-site, Dominica’s best hikes, waterfalls, and snorkeling spots are at your fingertips. Champagne Reef—where geothermal bubbles rise through the water—is just a short boat ride away. Hike to Trafalgar Falls, kayak through Soufriere Bay, or, if you’re up for the challenge, tackle the famous Boiling Lake trek.
  • If you’re a diver, Soufriere Marine Reserve is right nearby, offering some of Dominica’s most spectacular underwater landscapes. And for a once-in-a-lifetime experience? Swimming with sperm whales. This is one of the only places in the world where it’s possible.
  • One thing to note—there’s no kids’ club or babysitting service at Jungle Bay. But with this much to do, they won’t miss it.
  • Jungle Bay strikes the perfect balance between adventure and relaxation. The open-air spa, hidden in the jungle, offers a range of treatments, but the signature Jungle Bay massage is a must. The yoga pavilion, perched high above the property, has daily classes that welcome all levels.
  • Don’t miss the garden tour with Keith—a chance to see (and taste!) the island’s freshest ingredients right from the source. And when you need a little downtime, the hammocks on your balcony, the infinity pool, or a quiet walk through the gardens are the perfect way to reset.

Traveler Reviews

Jungle Bay is paradise on earth. It completely embodies the beauty of Dominica and feels both super high end and authentic at the same time. We loved that it is Dominican owned and it is clear that the staff are treated well and their energy is incredible. Thank you to Sam, Laura, Jeff, Keith, Micky, Colin and all of the staff who made my family so welcome. We traveled with our 9 year old daughter who was treated so well and loved the adventure of the island. We will be back. Thank you Jungle Bay

A treasure of a place for the family.
It was our second annual return to Jungle Bay and we are already planning our third in 2025. It is an amazing resort with many things to do that ALSO feels like home. That is a unique combination. First Dominica is such a friendly, beautiful country. Jungle Bay is on one of the most incredible parts of the island. On the one hand you are secluded in nature with incredible views. On the other you are a short walk into a vibrant, quaint, seaside bay town. You can hang out at the resort, or do some hiking directly from the resort. But of course there is so much else. The hiking in Dominica is as good as it gets and Jungle Bay has a number of organized hikes. The sea provides many things to do, snorkeling, diving, and whale-watching all which can be arranged by Jungle Bay. My boys and I were able to swim with the Sperm whales in Dominica, a peak-life experience. Back at Jungle Bay, you feel like you are at home. The management and staff are very welcoming. The owner and his father (Thomas or as he is known, pops) greet you. The food is tastefully prepared. All in all, another great year for us at Jungle Bay.
