Hotel Edelweiss & Gurgl is tucked into the charming alpine village of Obergurgl, at the very end of Austria’s Ötztal Valley. It’s about a 3-hour drive from either Zurich or Munich, making it a smart add-on to a European itinerary — especially for families seeking a true mountain escape after some city time.
Obergurgl is one of the highest ski resorts in the Alps, with reliable snow from November through April. If you buy a 3-day pass, it also includes ski access to neighboring Solden, a bigger mountain known for its glacier skiing.
The hotel sits at the foot of the slopes, with ski lifts just steps away and ski school close enough to walk in your boots. While the town itself is small and peaceful, it’s perfectly built for families who want nature, convenience, and a full ski experience without the crowds of better-known resorts.

What a lovely family hotel – location is incredible for those with young children with instant access to the ski lift. The hotel is part renovated and once completed will be the perfect blend of modern and traditional mountain hotel. Repeat customer with families and children flocking through the doors year after year – that in itself says a lot about the place. This was our first year with 4/5 year old boys and we couldn’t have been happier, felt safer and relaxed. The food choices great and meal times super fun – the staff attentive and lovely – especially Dominic! The bar/apres vibe is lovely despite covid restrictions and the bar staff excellent – The pool area also fab for the family and a lovely.

Have stayed here a few times and it’s always our choice of hotel when skiing in this resort. Fabulous service. Rooms are spacious and the balcony rooms give a great view of the home slopes. Food is great and I love that they are able to cater for my gluten free diet. (They have even made me a gf version of Kaiserschmarrn – yummy!).
There is a cosy bar and a more spacious lounge area for drinks. The spa is tranquil. The only drawback is that the jacuzzi is in the main pool area and can get used by the children – same goes for the outdoor pool.
