Why we like it for families

  • A TRUE ALL-INCLUSIVE, BUT MAKE IT ELEVATED: This is the kind of all-inclusive experience that parents dream about but rarely find. Naturhotel Forsthofgut wraps you in ease — meals, childcare, spa access, outdoor adventures — while maintaining a strong sense of quality and individuality. Most stays include ¾ board (breakfast, afternoon snack, and a gourmet multi-course dinner), plus access to the waldSPA and all the kids’ activities. The inclusive nature of the resort doesn’t mean sacrificing food or service — it means more time to enjoy your trip.
  • AN ALPINE SETTING THAT WORKS YEAR-ROUND: Whether you’re dreaming of ski-in/ski-out access in the winter or hiking and biking in the summer, this is a hotel designed to shine in every season. Its location in Leogang — close to Salzburg, Innsbruck, and even Munich — makes it a great stop on a broader European itinerary. Kids can play in the snow right outside the hotel in winter, or explore the mountains, forest, and playgrounds in warmer months.
  • THE KID’S CLUB IS ON ANOTHER LEVEL: Rocky’s Club offers daily childcare for ages 2 and up, with supervised lunch and dinner included. But it’s not just about convenience — it’s about meaningful experiences. Children can explore the forest and the on-site farm (miniGUT), get messy in the art studio, and connect with nature in a way that’s educational and fun. The program runs all week and makes it possible for parents to fully unwind, knowing their kids are truly engaged.
  • SPA TIME, WITHOUT THE GUILT: While your children are off crafting or foraging in the woods, you can take full advantage of the waldSPA. There’s a large family spa area with a warm indoor/outdoor pool, plus a completely separate adults-only zone with an infinity pool, saunas, and quiet lounges with fireplace views. It’s a dream setup that lets both parents and kids get what they need.
  • FAMILY ROOMS THAT MAKE IT EASY: The family suites are spacious, thoughtfully designed, and clearly intended for real families — not just couples with a rollaway. From cozy bunk beds in a separate kids’ room to private balconies and plush bedding, these rooms offer space and comfort in a refined alpine style. There are several suite categories to choose from, many with two bedrooms or partially separate sleeping spaces, so you’re not stuck tiptoeing after bedtime.

Location and Activities

Naturhotel Forsthofgut is located in the Alpine village of Leogang, in Austria’s Salzburg region. It’s just over an hour’s drive from Salzburg Airport, making it surprisingly accessible for an alpine resort. Innsbruck and Munich airports are also within reach, making this hotel a great addition to a broader European itinerary.

This is a true four-season destination. In winter, it offers direct ski-in/ski-out access to the Saalbach-Hinterglemm-Leogang-Fieberbrunn ski area — one of Austria’s largest. Come summer, the same slopes transform into hiking and mountain biking trails, while kids can explore the surrounding forest, natural playgrounds, and hotel’s on-site farm. It’s a dream setting for active families looking to connect with nature.

  • From the moment you arrive, you know you’re somewhere special. Naturhotel Forsthofgut is nestled at the base of the Austrian Alps, with pine trees flanking the property and mountain peaks visible from nearly every angle. Whether you arrive in snow boots or hiking shoes, you’ll step into a peaceful blend of rustic Alpine charm and polished design. Families will love the wide-open grounds, forest paths, and the calming presence of nature everywhere — all with the ease of a luxury resort.
  • Designed with families in mind, the suites here are cozy, spacious, and thoughtfully laid out. Many feature separate sleeping areas for children — often with adorable bunk beds — and plenty of room to relax without tiptoeing after bedtime. The Family Suites (like Schwalbennest or Glück) offer alpine-style decor, plush bedding, and private balconies with mountain views. Whether you choose a junior suite or a multi-bedroom villa, the quality is consistent: warm wood tones, soft textiles, and practical amenities like kitchenettes or full kitchens in select rooms.
  • Dining at Forsthofgut is an experience in itself. Most stays include a generous ¾ board — a hearty breakfast buffet, afternoon snack, and a gourmet multi-course dinner — all with a focus on seasonal, local ingredients. Families can expect kid-friendly options at every meal, high chairs at the ready, and flexible dining times. There are four à la carte restaurants for special evenings, including fine dining and sushi, for when you’re ready for a little grown-up indulgence while the kids are at the club.
  • Rocky’s Club is more than childcare — it’s a full-day adventure for kids ages 2 and up. With programming that includes forest discovery, arts and crafts, visits to the on-site mini farm (miniGUT), and time in the soft play or ninja zones, children are engaged from morning to night — including supervised lunch and dinner. There’s even a kids’ cinema, playgrounds, and indoor pool areas just for little ones. For families with toddlers under age 2, there’s a cozy parent-child playroom you can enjoy together.
  • The waldSPA is exceptional. For families, there’s a warm indoor/outdoor pool and wellness zone where kids are welcome to splash and play. For parents seeking downtime, the adults-only spa includes a serene infinity pool overlooking the forest, multiple saunas and steam rooms, and a fireplace lounge made for sinking into. Yoga classes, massages, and nature-inspired treatments are all on offer. And if you’d rather unwind with a glass of wine, the hotel bar and terrace are just as inviting.
  • In winter, the hotel offers direct access to one of Austria’s top ski areas — with rentals and ski school right on site. In summer, families can explore the hiking trails, try downhill biking, or simply spend the day at the natural swimming lake and sandy “beach.” Horseback riding, archery, and golf are also available nearby, giving families plenty of ways to explore and connect.

Traveler Reviews

This beautiful venue is set in the Alps in the midst of mountain activities for all seasons. The staff meticulously strive to give you the best stay, being ultimately helpful and careful to remember details about you and your family from plans to preferences. One thing that sets Forsthofgut apart is the planning for families to stay. The thoughtfulness of children’s activities and separation of spaces makes this a one-of-a-kind luxury stop for families. Even the restaurant has thought of children with a buffet set out for kids amidst elegant dining for adults. If you need anything, just ask! Rent an e-bike and enjoy the beauty of the Alps and its small towns on two wheels. Try the sushi at Mizumi, or better, sit by the water and have it brought to you! This isn’t a budget hotel, but if you’re looking to enjoy a luxury stay while traveling with family, you must visit Forsthofgut!

Outstanding hotel, especially if travelling with children. So many lovely touches and they have thought of nearly everything to make a trip with small children still feel like a luxury holiday as parents. So much on offer in the spa, for children to do, and wonderful food. Ski- in and out and excellent skiing lessons with their ski school partner. We cannot wait to go again!
