Getting to Dragon Cay Resort requires a journey, but that’s part of the fun. The hotel is on Middle Caicos about 90 minutes from the Providenciales International Airport. See our detailed post on the Mango Tree blog about our adventure exploring North and Middle Caicos.
Take a 20- minute taxi ride to the Heaving Dock Rock Marina. Then, take the TCI ferry to North Caicos—a 25-minute ride. (Schedules here.) If you’re headed straight to Dragon Cay from the airport, the hotel will arrange an airport greeter and taxi to the ferry port, with an optional stop at the grocery store.
Rent a car in advance from Superior Auto Rentals or Caribbean Cruisin’ Car Rentals to have it waiting for you when you arrive at the North Caicos ferry dock. Your scenic drive to Dragon Cay Resort will take about 45 minutes, with optional beach stops along the way.
You might be wondering, what is there to do with our kids once you get to this unspoiled Caribbean hideaway? Part of the appeal of Dragon Cay is that there’s very little to do but enjoy the beach and the views. But kids need activities, and fortunately daily rates include complimentary use of the hotel’s paddleboards, kayaks, snorkel equipment and bicycles. The hiking around the rolling green hills also is beautiful and will spark your kids’ sense of exploration. Off one path, not far from the main beach, a secret staircase cuts through the cliff down to a second, private beach, which will delight your kids. And nearby Bambarra Beach is as calm as a swimming pool, great for younger kids
The Dragon Cay cottages are set on green rolling hills above Mudjin Harbour Bay Beach. It’s a short walk from each cottage down to the undeveloped, cliffside beach. The hotel provides folding beach chairs.
Each cottage is brightly furnished, with large windows and epic views. The bedrooms are comfortable, towels soft, and air conditioning strong. Despite your natural surroundings, you will sleep well here. There is no pool here, and very few amenities beyond the comfortable cottages and stunning landscape—but that’s part of the charm.
Cottages have kitchens but you must stop for groceries before you arrive. There are no grocery stores on Middle Caicos, and only small stores on North Caicos. You won’t be able to make an early-morning run to the store for your kids’ favorite snacks. Your best bet is to make a thorough grocery list and stock up on Providenciales before getting on the ferry.
There is a great restaurant, Mudjin Harbour Bar& Grill—with awesome cocktails, seafood, and views—but it’s only open for lunch (11am-3pm). So you’ll definitely need to grocery shop for breakfast and dinner food. There are a handful of casual restaurants on North Caicos if you want to go out for dinner. When Dragon Cay is full, the owners sometimes will do a special dinner for guests one night as well.
The sunrise and sunset views are spectacular.
Bring lot of bug spray. Seriously, do not forget the bug spray. Middle Caicos is a wild island, and the bugs and mosquitos at night can be bad. Another important tip: Turn off all the lights in your cottage before bed. If you do, you’ll wake up to the most beautiful view imaginable in total relaxation. But if you do not turn off all the lights, bugs will be attracted to your cottage because there are no nearby lights at night, and they will work hard to find a way in.

We stayed at Seawings Villa. It has a Great view! One day we watched a whale blow 4 or 5 times and then dive for 1/2 hr or so just back of the Dragon cay. They sure can stay under a long time! It is very quiet and peaceful at Blue Horizon. We went swimming at Mudjin Harbour everyday. Swimming is best at low water if it is really windy. Take caution of Dragon Cay as waves wash over on windy days unexpectedly! There are lovely paths to the beach which are Great for taking night walks to the cave by the beach.Bring along a little flashlight for this. The stars are vivid and well worth a night walk! Sit on the sand as the moon shines white on the cave above while you look at the Dragon and listen to waves crash on your empty beach! In the daytime this cave protects you from the sun as you stare in amazement at the blue green water , Dragon Cay and the Beach. The wind is your friend here at Mudjin Harbour! Other reviews touch on food, car rental, etc and provide good advice! Susan is very friendly and will make planning for your vacation and stay very easy! This is my 3rd stay at Blue Horizon and It gets better every time! If you need to get away from it all and are still able to paddle your own boat, this is the place for you!

The location by Mudgin Harbour will be remembered for many years. The iridescence of the ocean is like a peacock feather. It hard to distinquish where the horizon is and the sea begins. Enjoyed a quiet time at Sea Wings with close family. It is an amazing location with far reaching views. The two bedroom property was spotlessly clean and well maintained. Staff at the resort were so accommodating to our requests and welcoming. The Mudgin restaurant on-site at Dragon Cay resort serves delicious food, especially the jerk burgers. Nearby at Conch Bar, Sea View café cooked us the freshest snapper with creole sauce. I recommend staying at Dragon Cay for its unique peace, tranquility and beauty.
