Why we like it for families

  • The Amenities. It’s rare to find a small resort that also offers all-inclusive packages and a host of amenities for the whole family, but Curtain Bluff fits the bill. Despite having only 72 rooms, you’ll find tennis courts, a spa, squash, a playground, a kids’ club (accepting littles from 3+), lawn games, non-motorized watersports, and a dive shop all on-site. It’s a luxury choice, with a price tag to match, but you’ll get what you pay for.
  • The Welcoming Vibe. It’s telling that Curtain Bluff often books up for the holiday season a full year in advance: Guests return year over year to a place that feels like coming home. The resort manager makes a point to introduce himself to any dinner guests he doesn’t recognize. Live music every night, combined with the resort’s small size, creates a sense of community.
  • The Beaches. Curtain Bluff’s most unique feature is that it has not just one but two beaches. The property sits on a point; on one side, there’s a rough beach with crashing waves that will lull you to sleep. But on the flip side, there’s a beach as calm as any other, wonderful for lounging the day away and for little kids.
  • The Rooms. Special is the only word that can be used to describe the beachfront Junior Suites at Curtain Bluff. While we don’t always recommend Junior Suites for families, without separate sleeping spaces for the kid, these ones are huge, with plenty of space for a family (and a huge bathroom that easily fits a travel crib).
  • Note that this resort attracts families, but not exclusively so. It has a sophisticated, if a bit sleepy, edge. We think many grandparents would especially like this hotel, making it an excellent choice for multi-generational trips.
  • Curtain Bluff offers Mango Tree guests VIP amenities including: Upgrade on arrival, subject to availability; $100 resort credit; Early Check-In / Late Check-Out, subject to availability; Complimentary Wi-Fi. Let’s get you VIP’d!

Location and Activities

Curtain Bluff is just under 40 minutes away from the V. C. Bird International Airport in Antigua. Nestled on a rocky peninsula on Antigua’s south side, it’s just a short drive from some of Antigua’s best sights, including Nelson’s Dockyard and Shirley Heights.

Although you could easily stay on property for a whole week and not get bored, it’s worth getting out to explore Antigua. We recommend renting a car at the airport; the well-paved roads near Curtain Bluff make driving around the island a manageable adventure.

When you drive towards Curtain Bluff from the airport, you’ll crest a hill and catch an amazing view of waves crashing onto a beach, with hotel rooms just steps from the sand. If you’ve been looking at photos of Curtain Bluff in anticipation of your stay, you’ll realize that’s where you’re headed, and the excitement mounts before you even get to the hotel gates.

The kid-focused activities are all centered around the second, calm beach on the properties’ other side. That’s where you’ll find the dive shop, kayaks, paddle boats, and more. The pool, while not a focal point of the property, sits behind the beach with lots of shade.

Cee Bee Kids Camp is just a short walk from the beach and pool. We love that the kids’ club is hosted in a covered outdoor structure, with board games, crafts, a TV, and more, so you won’t be leaving your kids indoors when you want a break. For the littles, there’s a shady playground right next to the kids’ club area. And for older kids, a daily fun activity schedule includes everything from handicraft to crab races, Hobie Cat sailing to waterskiing – enough to keep even the most active kids busy all day.

In-room babysitting is also available

As for the rooms, the decor is seashore chic, with printed patterned flooring, bright blue and green accents, and modern Caribbean paintings. There isn’t a mediocre room in the hotel. You can choose to stay in the beachfront junior suites, steps from the surfing beach, or in a room with a sweeping view up on the bluff (kids 6 and up only in bluff rooms).

Curtain Bluff has two restaurants for all-inclusive dining. Breakfast and dinner are served at the Tamarind Tree off the lobby, which surrounds a courtyard with tamarind trees growing in the middle (awesome for antsy kids to run around). The beachfront Sea Grape serves a casual buffet lunch on the beach but is open a few nights a week for dinner as well, serving Italian-Antiguan Make sure not to miss their impressive wine cellar with extensive collection, expertly picked from across the world by their resident sommelier.

If your kids get hungry before dinner hour, the resort is happy to provide kids’ dinner early on request, whether in the dining room or in-room

Parents should definitely head to the spa for some pampering – and leave extra time just to relax there because the view is stunning. Take fitness classes like yoga and pilates. Caribbean cooking and wine tasting classes are also offered.

Don’t miss: The weekly Wednesday night cocktail party at the Owner’s Residence

Amazing experience Amazing location. Rooms were well kept and had amazing views. The service was excellent and always friendly. Watersport facilities were great with lots of choice of activities and all were included in the price even the diving. This hotel catered for families above all else so the kids and adults had an amazing experience.
