Why we like it for families

  • It’s the complete package. Traveler reviews (consistent with our own personal experience) gush about every aspect of Casa San Agustin: the central location, impeccable service, graceful design, delicious food, comfortable beds, and serene courtyard pool.
  • The staff. Kids are warmly welcomed here as little VIPs, and the staff will make sure you have everything you need.
  • The rooms. Even the best photos hardly do justice to Casa San Agustin’s spacious and well-appointed rooms. The beds, dressed in crisp, white linens, feel oh-so-luxurious. You will want to spend time in these rooms – exactly the right feeling when traveling with kids.
  • The location. Many families prioritize pool and beach access when visiting Cartagena, and choose to stay outside the walled city in the Bocagrande neighborhood. But that means a long trek into the walled city, which is more fun when it can be explored leisurely. Casa San Agustin gives you the chance to explore the town in short, kid-sized adventures – including for dinner in the evenings, when bedtime is just a few blocks away.
  • The pool. Cartagena is hot. Having a pool to retreat from the afternoon heat is critical. Casa San Agustin’s courtyard offers a cool, inviting refuge – and it’s pool is big enough for your kids to enjoy.
  • The common areas. The mansion-turned-hotel has only 3 floors, with terraces unfolding into sitting areas throughout. These are lovely places to relax while your kids are sleeping, where you’ll be no further from them than you would be in your own living room.

Casa San Agustín offers Mango Tree guests VIP amenities including: Upgrade on arrival, subject to availability; $100 resort credit; Early Check-In / Late Check-Out, subject to availability; Complimentary Wi-Fi. Let’s get you VIP’d!

  • Surrounded by the bustle, beauty, and heat of Cartagena’s well-worn cobblestone streets, you enter Casa San Agustin through a heavy wooden door by a barely marked entrance. Inside you find a tranquil, meandering set of courtyards. Ancient stone and wood walls, cascading greenery, and tasteful but well-weathered design touches make you feel like you’ve uncovered the secret hideaway of a Caribbean buccaneer.
  • The hotel’s restaurant, Alma, sits just off the lobby. It offers elevated, Colombian-coastal ambiance and cuisine. Pass through the ornate and romantic cocktail bar to a series of dining rooms that open to an internal courtyard (which is where you’ll eat your breakfast).
  • The heated courtyard pool sits just past reception, a centerpiece of the hotel. Plush lounge chairs, plenty of space for kids to swim, and lunch service from Alma available from 12pm-3pm.
  • Walking through the halls, you’ll stumble upon a library for afternoon tea, a rooftop solarium, and other enticing common areas. Three Spanish colonial houses were restored and re-designed as this urban hotel, and it maintains a comfortable and intimate feel.

Traveler Reviews

Casa San Agustin is excellent. The rooms are large – we had a two bedroom suite – which was more than adequate for our family of four. The restaurant Alma is one of the best we ate at while in Cartagena – breakfast is included and there was remarkable diversity – you could stick with the menu or order off menu with no upcharges. Dinner at Alma was even better than breakfast. The front of house staff is superlative – the porters, the concierges, the waitstaff all lovely. . . .The kids loved the well sized pool. Location couldn’t be better if you want to be in the Old City – you can walk to everything.

Well after four tries (and three covid-related cancels) we were delighted to finally be able to stay at this dreamy boutique hotel in the heart of the walled city. It was more than worth the wait! Our family loved the Suite del Virrey – enormous and gorgeous space with sublime terraces and jewel box bathrooms. To say this hotel is aesthetically pleasing is the understatement of the year.
