Why we like it for families

  • The Value. If you’re looking for an all-inclusive resort that is not in Jamaica, Mexico, or the Dominican Republic, you may have found the search surprisingly hard. That’s because those islands have the large all-inclusive market covered. But Antigua will surprise you with smaller, luxury all-inclusive resorts that have a bit more character and connection to the destination — with Blue Waters at the top of the list offering excellent value.
  • The Location: Blue Waters Antigua is a short 15-minute car ride from V.C. Bird International Airport. You are also only 45 minutes away from Nelson’s Dockyard, a historical maritime hub with a walkable restaurant scene and great viewpoints for the whole family. You’ll feel away from it all inside the resort but also be close to great spots like Dickenson’s Bay if you want to venture out.
  • The Rooms: From private villas and penthouses to spacious 1-bedroom luxury suites, Blue Waters has something for families of all sizes. You can find ample space for multi-generational gatherings or large suites for families of 5. The rooms are classic Caribbean style with tasteful furnishings with a tropical vibe. The balconies are not to be missed and are very handy for in-room dining with an ocean breeze.
  • The Staff: This staff knows how to care for families. Don’t be surprised if they roll out the red carpet for your kids at Blue Waters. They also have a very warm and welcoming Kid’s Club staff with amazing programming. From poolside to the Kid’s Club, your family will love the responsive and attentive staff at Blue Waters. Unlike sprawling resorts with 800+ rooms, there’s a smaller footprint here, and you’ll never feel like you’re just a number.

Location and Activities

Blue Waters Antigua is located on the northwestern corner of Antigua and just a short 16-minute car or taxi ride away from the V. C. Bird International Airport. With its enviable beachfront location, it’s surrounded by freshwater pools, secluded beach coves, and 17 acres of stunning tropical gardens.

If your dream is hanging by the pool with gorgeous beach and ocean views and relaxing with the kids, Blue Waters makes that easy as a luxury all-inclusive resort for families, but you can also get a car at the airport and easily explore the island.

  • Only 15 minutes from the airport and a short drive by car or taxi for adventuring around the island, you’ll be in vacation mode quite quickly at Blue Waters.
  • The property has two different beaches but they are smaller in size. What steals the show are the many infinity pools right at the ocean’s edge. The family Cove buildings have private pools, as do the villas, and so the main pool areas don’t get too crowded. If you’re more of a pool-time with a view of the beach than a toes-in-sand family, this could be great choice.
  • But there also is no shortage of ways to get out on the water at Blue Waters! They have a fleet of new boats as of 2024 and offer the usual suspects like snorkeling and deep sea fishing tours, as well as day trips over to Barbuda and catamaran tours around the island. The concierge will take care of everything, so you only need to tell them where you want to go and when.
  • If you have the budget, the Cove Suites are the place to stay with families. The suites are clustered together in villas, and they are a secluded and private section of the hotel, so your kids can unwind in the comfort of other families. The villas have pools reserved for Cove guests and a separate concierge service as well.
  • You’ll find classic but tasteful Caribbean resort decor here, with whites, blues, and calming colors. There are fully stocked mini-fridges for snack emergencies, as well as twice-daily housekeeping.
  • The Kid’s Club at Blue Waters is amazing. They accept children ages 5-12, but littles can join with paid babysitting, and they do a great job at keeping them busy. Arts and crafts are here, sure, but they also facilitate things like limbo dancing and pizza and movie nights. The outdoor garden with tortoises to feed and a shady gazebo for outside lunches.
  • In-room babysitting and supervision while out and about at the resort are also available.
  • There are three restaurants at Blue Waters. The Palm Restaurant offers al fresco breakfast. It fancies up for lunch and dinner so note that no flip flops are allowed, so tell dad to pack real shoes. The Reef is the most casual of the bunch with a large outdoor terrace and pool and beachside food and drink service. The Cove Restaurant is the most formal of the bunch and open for dinner only. High atop a cliff with mesmerizing views, this is an ideal spot for date night serving French and Caribbean cuisine.
  • Blue Waters has beautiful meandering trails between sections of the hotel where you can let your kids roam and explore a bit. It’s not busy and crowded like some other all-inclusive resorts can be.
  • The spa at Blue Waters is beautiful, with sweeping views of the bay and a private infinity pool for relaxing, plus salon services.
  • The fitness center features Cybex machines and is a cool oasis from the rest of the hotel. Spots do need to be reserved as space is limited.
  • If you’re not a gym person, there are lots of ways to stay active at Blue Waters. You can catch a yoga or Pilates on the beach or check out a water aerobics class in the pool. Take morning walks with the head gardener, John, who offers history notes and information on the flora and fauna around the property.

Traveler Reviews

Outstanding resort with impeccable service, great facilities and delicious food! Just returned from a 7 day stay at Blue Waters with my family, including four stilt children. We stayed in the Cove Penthouse that worked out perfectly for our family. We had a private pool, king sized beds, a great covered porch with easy access to all the resort amenities including pickleball court, yoga platform, gym, restaurants as well as pools and beaches. Service was impeccable, with a special call out to the best concierge ever- Nicole. We chartered a small power boat for a coastal cruise- awesome time with Danny and Rocky. Few resorts earn our 5 starting and intention to return. Highly recommend!

Ten Day Happy Family Holiday This was our second family ( 3 x teens/tweens as well as Mother in law) holiday at Blue Waters and it felt even better the second time around. The setting is glorious- laid back, Caribbean chic surroundings, beautiful, well kept grounds, nice bedrooms and incredibly friendly and helpful staff made for another very relaxing holiday. Special mentions to Nicole, always available to help with a smile, Del and his water sports team for their effervescence and willing and all the team in the Palm restaurant for helping with mealtimes and my husband’s endless requests for your lemongrass and ginger tea! Thank you for taking such good care of us, we loved it and I hope we will return again.
