Why we like it for families

  • aIt’s the full package. Reviews from family travelers (confirmed from our own experience) uniformly emphasize the relaxed yet refined vibe, comfortable amenities, excellent food, and attentive staff.
  • The atmosphere. Traveling with kids can be a challenge. Once you get to this property, on a tranquil Caribbean island that feels lost in time, you get the distinct feeling your needs have been anticipated.
  • The people. The staff will go out of their way to get to know you and your kids, greeting them by name at breakfast each morning. Owner Bengt Mortstedt, from Sweden, can often be found dining at the oceanfront restaurant. Rima, the guest services manager, will make sure you have everything you need.
  • The grounds. The playful gardens, perfectly landscaped and dotted with colorful fruit trees, are a natural playground. Kids can safely navigate the property alone and will have plenty of space to run around. The garden cottages are a short walk from the pool and restaurant, making it easy to pop back to the room (or down to the bar).
  • The location. There’s something about Bequia that makes you want to linger – and then come back again soon. Bequia Beach Hotel is less than 15 minutes way from the island’s best beaches and restaurants, giving you easy access to all the island has to offer.

Location and Activities

Bequia Beach Hotel is located on Friendship Beach, 15 minutes from Bequia’s ferry dock.

You can reach Bequia by flying to St. Vincent and then enjoying a 1-hour ferry crossing to Bequia. Bequia Beach Hotel will arrange your transportation from the airport to the ferry, and then the ferry to the hotel. Once you’re on the island, get around by pick-up-truck taxi – no car needed.

You can also fly to Bequia from Barbados or St. Lucia (30 minute) on SVG Air, Mustique Air, or Bequia Air’s 9-seat island hopper.

  • Bequia Beach Hotel is the biggest hotel on Bequia but, with less than 100 rooms, still feels intimate and personal. Reception is housed in a small building with a library, which opens onto the lush gardens that are the heart of the property.
  • The hotels’ suites are housed in two small buildings – one beachfront, one hillside. The best rooms, though, are the one- and two- bedroom cottages surrounding the garden, which are a close walk to the pool, beach, restaurant, and reception. The rooms evoke traditional Caribbean charm, rather than modern luxury, but that’s part of what makes this place so special.
  • At water’s edge, you’ll find two pools – one freshwater, and a newly added saltwater infinity pool overlooking the ocean. The saltwater pool has platforms in the shallow end that provide a safe place for young kids to splash around. A third pool is tucked away near the hillside suites.
  • The main restaurant, Bagatelle, is next to the saltwater pool and serves classic and delicious Caribbean fare. You’ll have your breakfast here, and kids will love the scrambled eggs and freshly baked bread. Bequia Beach Bar is steps away, offering live music and entertainment in the evenings, and Sunday BBQs.
  • A second restaurant, Blue Tropic, offers Italian food on the hillside during high-season.
  • The hotel has a sister property, Jack’s Beach Bar, on the picturesque, kid-friendly Princess Margaret Beach, just 10 minutes away, where you can charge food to the room.
  • While there is no kids’ programming, the hotel staff will help make sure your kids are entertained. In-room babysitting is provided by the hotel staff – a huge bonus because it means familiar faces for your children.

Traveler Reviews

“Bequia Beach Hotel was one of the hotels that inspired Mango Tree Travel. Family-friendly, but with class and charm all the same. The staff – guest manager Rima in particular – went out of their way to ensure that we had a wonderful trip with our two kids. The saltwater pool has kid-friendly platforms in the shallow end, where the kids could play while we took in the gorgeous ocean view. The rooms are spacious and classically-Caribbean. We simply can’t wait to go back.”

“From the minute we arrived at the Bequia Beach Hotel, we knew that this wasn’t going to be any ordinary stay. . . . There’s something nostalgic about the place, a far cry from the raked, white-pebbled fire pits of contemporary beachside hotels you see these days – it’s enchantingly personal here – as if you’re returning home to family.”
