Why we like it for families

  • The beach: This may be the most comfortable that sand and sun can get. The Baoase waterfront is arranged around a lagoon, with its edges arcing out toward a small island connected via wooden footbridge to the rest of the property. As the surf rolls in, it hits this breaker island and is reduced to tranquil ripples – you may feel the same when you flop into the plush loungers. Immediately, hotel staff will appear offering drinks and snacks along with the occasional complimentary amuse bouchées over the course of the day. Kids can easily splash and swim to their hearts’ content in the shallow water or pick sea snails off the ocean floor. The snorkeling just outside the lagoon is pretty good too.
  • The restaurant setting. The food itself is delicious but the best part might be eating it right on the beach. Every meal can be had with your toes in the sand – you might never put on shoes during your stay. Breakfast, which is included, is reason enough to stay here. Fresh fruit and pastries are available at the restaurant’s buffet while staff take orders from the a la carte menu. You and the kids can feast on everything from omelets and waffles to passionfruit pancakes. All of this is served at table right on the beach beneath a shaded cabana. Kids can wear their swimsuits to breakfast and go straight into the water.
  • The grounds: The same attention to detail which makes the beach area such a delight flows through the entire property. With only 23 rooms, villas, and suites, you will often feel like you have the place to yourself. Lush foliage, wood and stone walkways, and an emphasis on open spaces and ocean views turns even a stroll back to the room for forgotten floaties into a chance for bliss. A massive Banyan tree spreads over the inner courtyard. There always seem to be new details to stumble across, whether it’s a grotto tucked into the main pool or the wooden fish dangling over the library. Perhaps the best part for parents, though, is that the property still feels small and contained, giving kids an ability to explore with a feeling of independence, but parents the comfort that they are always close by.
  • The service: Conscientious, professional, and unfailingly kind, the staff at Baoase make every interaction a pleasure. Service is clearly a point of emphasis for hotel, as staff are never far away and personal attention never hard to come by. For parents, this is a chance to feel like someone is looking after you for a change. It also means you don’t have to devote as much brain power to logistics and can focus instead on making the most of your quality time.

Location and Activities

Baoase Luxury Resort is an easy 20 minute ride from Curaçao’s Hato International Airport.

Although we highly recommend exploring Curaçao’s beaches by rental car, Baoase has its own gorgeous, serene and private lagoon that you may never want to leave. If you choose not to rent a car, the resort can arrange excursions for you. You will only be a few minutes from the colors and culture of downtown Willemstad. • Baoase’s cultivated atmosphere of Balinese-inspired “barefoot elegance” will immediately settle over you after passing through the gate.
  • A short stroll through the grounds brings you to the resort’s main common space, the Baoase Culinary Beach Restaurant. Shaded tables sit just behind outdoor lounge areas, all in an open-air setting steps from the beach—so close that many of the restaurants tables are right in the sand.
  • The beach itself is lined with plush loungers and cabanas which are made up on request and are a great for a picnic lunch while lounging the day away. The beachside service is exceptional. While at Baoase, this is where you will spend the bulk of your time.
  • Baoase’s calm lagoon is a great place for parents to experiment with watersports with young kids. Clear bottom kayaks and snorkel masks are available to use at will, along with a big bucket of beach toys and balls for the smallest travelers.
  • Kids will be intrigued by Baoase’s mineral infinity pool, open from 10am to 7pm, which has nooks and crannies that make you feel like you’re swimming in a jungle. Baoase encourages calm behavior at the pool, especially in the mornings, because it is surrounded by guest villas. It’s not a pool designed for long hours of splashing around and swimming, but rather geared more towards a shady beach break. The nice thing is it’s never crowded — perhaps because many of the Baoase suites and villas have private pools (12 out of the 23 accomodation options).
  • At night the hotel transforms, with additional tables set out for dinner service on the beach at Baoase Culinary Beach Restaurant. Torches on tiny boats light up the lagoon. The menu integrates French cuisine with hints of Asian and tropical ingredients. A smaller, second restaurant, Sunset Deck Restaurant, can be found at the end of a meandering pathway through the villas, where themed restaurants are offered 2-3 nights a week.
  • Daily, you will also receive a small plate in your room featuring exotic fruits like rambutan or mangosteen. It’s a perfect chance for kids to try something new.
  • The hotel has 23 accomodation options: 3 standard rooms, 11 suites, and 9 villas ranging from one to four bedrooms (for a total of 38 rooms). Most are on the ground floor only, with a handful of rooms located on a second floor. The villas are by far the best choices for kids, as the rooms and suites have a more romantic and couple-focused setup. Many villas have private pools; others surround the hotel’s natural pool.
  • Bathrooms have rainfall shower heads and accent lighting embedded in the floor. The kitchens in villas are modern and fully furnished with high-end stainless-steel furnishings The Balinese-inspired furniture adds to ambiance.
  • The resort has a beachside spa and wellness services which should be booked in advance. A fitness center with personal training is just across the street from the resort.
  • If you can tear yourself away from the beach, the resort can arrange plenty of activities for you, including diving and ATV rides. You are likely to spot one of the hotel’s two boats parked in the lagoon, rocking gently and beckoning you to see more of the island from the water.
  • Babysitting services are also available.

Traveler Reviews

God I Love It Here I have nothing but kind things to say about my experience at the Baoase Luxury resort. From the minute my family and I walked through the resort, we felt so incredibly welcomed. The staff became our friends by the end of our stay and it was hard saying goodbye to all the lovely people we had the pleasure of knowing here! (Also I can’t stop thinking about the welcome drink that waited for us at the bar). The culinary experience was unlike any other. My family and I decided to venture out one night for dinner and ended up missing the meal that was prepared for the resort guests! That’s how lovely everything was.The villa we stayed in was the perfect space. From the little treats left on the bed to the lit incense in the evening, I could not have felt more comfortable.Once again, a huge shoutout to all of the staff members as well for being a HUGE part of our Baoase experience. After our stay, I can truly call them friends. They should be expecting a Christmas card from us come December :)I cannot recommend this place enough. Truly such an incredible experience that made Curacao all the more beautiful.

Trip of a lifetime! We took a family trip with our 3 young adult children to this amazing resort. From the time that we were met at the door, until we waved goodbye, we felt like we were the most important guest there. The staff goes above and beyond in making you feel welcome. Prior to arriving, I was concerned this resort might be too “couples” focused. Although couples were there, there were also families with small children along with families with older children. Although the resort is small, you feel like you have it all to yourself. The rooms and beds are very comfortable. Earplugs are on your bed if you are someone who doesn’t like to wake up to the lovely birds singing! When you come in for the evening, the candles in your room are lit! Just one of the many, many special touches that the team puts together. There is someone raking the beaches every morning, and maintaining the gorgeous grounds. The beach butlers are more than happy to help fulfill your request and although the stay very busy they don’t ever look rushed and overwhelmed. The wait staff is incredible. They explain each dish and encourage you to try new things. The food is unbelievable! Absolutely delicious food that they are passionate about sharing. All of the managers, without being overbearing, go out of their way to make sure you are enjoying yourself. Honestly, the staff made this wonderful resort stand out. They seem to genuinely love what they do. I felt like I was saying goodbye to family when we left! We can’t wait to return one day!
