Why we like it for families

  • IT’S LOVED BY ALL TYPES OF TRAVELERS: We’ve stayed here with luxury-seeking travelers and more budget-conscious families, and everyone left happy. While it’s not a five-star resort, it hits the sweet spot with its warm hospitality, beautifully maintained grounds, excellent cocktails, and a relaxed but well-cared-for feel that appeals to a wide range of travelers. It’s the kind of place where families feel comfortable but still get an elevated experience.
  • FLEXIBLE SLEEPING ACCOMMODATIONS: Almost every room can be adapted with twin beds for kids, making it easy for families to share. There’s also a two-bedroom Owner’s Jungle House with a private plunge pool, plus a few connecting room options for larger groups. For even more space, the new Banks Hotel is a sister property just down the road that offers two-bedroom villas, and guests staying there still get full access to Sleeping Giant amenities—including the restaurant, spa, and activities. Bonus: all rooms have air conditioning, which can be a rare but appreciated perk in the jungle.
  • LOCATION: One of the most convenient jungle lodges for combining adventure with accessibility. It’s only about 1.5 hours from the Belize City airport, and 10–20 minutes from top kid-friendly adventures like cave tubing and Belize’s best zipline. It’s also an easier jumping-off point if you’re pairing with a beach destination like Placencia or Hopkins. It’s slightly farther from the main Mayan ruins, so if ruins are your top priority, we can guide you to a better option.
  • STAFF: Thoughtful, kind, and attentive—staff here go out of their way to make sure kids feel welcome, parents can relax, and special requests are handled with care. From remembering names to organizing child-friendly excursions, service here is personal and genuine.
  • NATURE & WILDLIFE: The setting feels like a real-life jungle playground. Families can explore scenic trails right on property, watch birds and butterflies, and even spot bunnies and peacocks wandering through the grounds. There’s space to run, explore, and enjoy the wild surroundings without needing to leave the lodge—perfect for curious kids and low-effort adventure.

Location and Activities

Rainforest Lodge at Sleeping Giant about 90 minutes from Belize City’s international airport, tucked into the foothills along the beautiful Hummingbird Highway. It’s the perfect spot for families wanting easy access to jungle adventures like cave tubing, ziplining, and river kayaking—all within a quick 10 to 30-minute drive.

While the Mayan ruins (Xunantunich, Caracol) are a bit farther—about 1.5 to 2.5 hours away—the lodge’s central location makes it easy to combine rainforest fun with a beach stay in Hopkins or Placencia. The roads are good, and exploring Belize from here is a breeze.

  • Rainforest Lodge at Sleeping Giant feels like your own private jungle playground. Spread across 100 acres of lush rainforest, it’s peaceful, wild, and full of nature for the whole family to explore. Kids can roam trails safely while parents soak in the quiet and wildlife all around.
  • You’ll arrive to friendly faces and a low-key vibe — no big resort crowds here, just genuine Belizean charm and the sounds of the jungle. Perfect for families who want an authentic, nature-filled getaway.
  • Rooms here are simple, clean, and cozy, with screened windows and mosquito nets that let the jungle in without the bugs. Families can add twin beds, grab connecting rooms, or book the roomy two-bedroom Jungle House for extra space. If you want a bit more comfort, the nearby Banks Hotel offers air-conditioned two-bedroom villas with access to lodge perks. Flexibility and comfort for all kinds of family needs.
  • Dining at Rainforest Lodge offers two solid options. Don Sanito’s Pizzeria serves up kid-friendly favorites like pizza all day (12–8 pm), perfect for picky eaters and casual family meals. The Grove House Restaurant is the main spot for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with a menu that balances local flavors and crowd-pleasers. Both spots offer a kids’ menu, so no worries about hungry little ones. Cocktails here are well-made and enjoyable, but on the pricier side—so if you’re budget-conscious, consider grabbing snacks or drinks on the way from the airport. The vibe is relaxed and family-friendly, with options to eat in or grab a quick bite between adventures.
  • Kids’ activities here are a win for families. The stables offer horseback riding for kids 7+, and little ones can ride with a parent. Nature walks and hanging bridges on property keep kids exploring, while waterfall rappelling, ziplining, and cave tubing are just a short drive away. Plenty to keep them busy and happy. Babysitting is available on request, so parents can sneak off for some quiet time without worry. It’s a perfect blend of adventure and ease for families.
  • The spa at Rainforest Lodge is all about relaxing after a day in the jungle—think massages with local-inspired treatments. There’s a small fitness area, and outdoor yoga classes when the mood strikes.

Traveler Reviews

“This place is one of the most amazing places we’ve ever stayed. We stayed in the river house and loved it!! Just walking around gave a magical feeling of adventure. Every tour we did was outstanding and so fun! The blackhole drop was challenging but exciting and very unforgettable. We also recommend the cave tubing, a fun relaxing and a unique way to tour a cave.  I still dream of delicious food. They offered a variety of dishes including very yummy vegan option! All of the staff were excellent, very kind and helpful! Our driver, Rudy, went above and beyond, stopping at the zoo and touring us around on our way to the airport! Such a cool experience! The atmosphere was so peaceful and the flowers were breathtaking, everytime we walked around we found new stunning flora. Can’t wait to go back! Highly recommend!!”

“Beautiful resort, tucked away in the jungle along a river with lots to do in the immediate area that is family friendly The food and staff was exceptional.  The accommodations were superb.  The three teenaged boys enjoyed the river, the swimming, the ziplines, the waterfalls, the caves, and the biking.  We traveled from BWI and used the resort transportation to and from BZE to the resort and we highly recommend that as the best way to and from the airport to the resort.  Also, we would recommend you consider the resort’s recommended excursions — especially if it is your first trip to Belize.  This was an excellent family vacation, and we will be back!”
