Why we like it for families

  • The Local Vibe. Valbella Resort sits in Lenzerheide, a relaxed alpine town in the Graubunden region just 90 minutes from Zurich where Swiss families go to ski, hike, and unwind. Part of the Swiss Family Hotels collection, it’s cozy, quirky, and built for families—without the fuss. You’ll hear more German than English, see locals with their kids, and get an authentic, laid-back taste of Swiss mountain life. It’s so good that it often books up many months in advance, so plan this trip early!
  • The Delicious Food. It’s rare to find food this good at a family hotel. Valbella serves fresh, seasonal dishes made with 100% natural ingredients. Kids get their own buffet during peak seasons, plus simple and adventurous options alike. But parents will feel they’ve gotten a fantastic Swiss dining experience too.
  • The Large Family Suites. The family suites at Valbella are bright, spacious, and thoughtfully designed, with tons of two bedroom options,, separate living areas, and balconies overlooking the Alps. With rustic wood and eco-friendly touches, they come stocked with LEGO kits for kids.
  • The Location. Its proximity to Zurich makes Valbella Resort perfect as a standalone getaway or an add-on to a longer Swiss itinerary to somewhere like St Moritz or Basel. Winter skiing here means plenty of slopes without the crowds (plus a nighttime light-up mountain coaster!) while summer brings lake swims, mountain biking, and hiking.
  • The Kids’ Club. Valbella’s LEGO-themed kids club, created with the LEGO Group, is a colorful, creative haven that keeps kids entertained for hours. There are separate clubs for toddlers and older kids, open long hours in peak times. Plus, Kinderland ski school is right next door, offering beginner lessons in a fun, safe setting. In summer, the Forest Kindergarten lets kids learn and play in the alpine outdoors.

Location and Activities

Valbella Resort sits in Lenzerheide, a peaceful alpine town in the heart of Graubünden, offering a genuine Swiss mountain experience far from the usual tourist crowds. It’s a great all-season spot with hiking, biking, and lake activities in summer, plus family-friendly skiing and sledding in winter.

What we love most is how easy it is to pair Valbella with a visit to a bigger city like Zurich, just 90 minutes away. Plus, the nearby town of Chur (about 30 minutes) is your gateway to the Glacier Express, making it simple to combine a relaxed mountain escape with exploring iconic Swiss destinations like St. Moritz.

  • Arriving at Valbella Resort feels like stepping into a peaceful Swiss mountain retreat. The resort is a charming collection of chalet-style buildings spread across gentle slopes, giving it a cozy, village-like feel without ever feeling crowded. The mountain views make it easy to soak in the stunning GraubĂĽnden scenery anytime you like.
  • The rooms at Valbella are a real highlight for families — especially the spacious two-bedroom suites that give everyone room to spread out. Many have separate living areas and balconies with postcard-perfect mountain views, making it easy to relax after a day outdoors. Note that the Tgiasa Principala room are in the main building. Tgiasa Fastatsch rooms are in a separate building from the main restaurant and lobby, but it’s a stone’s throw away and closer to the beginner ski area.
  • The decor gives the hotel a true sense of place, important in our minds for a family hotel in Switzerland. Think natural wood accents and eco-friendly touches throughout.
  • The rooms are set in two different buildings – the main hotel building (which houses the primarily restaurant, kids club, and spa) and the smaller Fastatsch hotel building (above the second restaurant, closer to the kids school). The spa and heated ski lockers can be reached without going outside, a treat in winter.
  • Valbella’s main restaurant, Capricorn, nails it with seasonal, locally sourced Alpine dishes that feel fresh and thoughtful—just really good food. During busy times, they set up a separate kids’ buffet stocked with familiar favorites plus some creative options for little eaters who want to try something new. Parents will love the relaxed vibe—no dress code and a well-curated wine list.
  • The second restaurant, Fastatsch, is a cozy spot with its own kids’ buffet and menu, perfect if you want something casual and easy. It’s especially popular in peak seasons, so check ahead if you’re visiting then, and if you’re not, check that it’s open.
  • The LEGO-themed kids’ club is a total game-changer—bright, creative, and designed with little ones in mind. Split into age groups, kids of all ages can take part – as young as age 2! One of the best parts: The kids club runs from 3-8pm during the weekdays, and 10am-8pm on weekends. That means you can enjoy the morning with your kids, and drop them off for afternoon hours while you keep skiing, apres-skis, or spa.
  • This place really stands out for beginner skiers. Kinderland ski school is right next to the resort (like steps from your room) and is perfect for little kids. When lessons are done, your tired kids will be swept off to the kids club for indoor fun.
  • In summer, the Forest Kindergarten offers nature-based outdoor adventures, letting kids explore the alpine environment through play and learning. There’s of course an outdoor pool for families, with alpine views to keep you grounded. There’s a squirrel hike that kids have been known to keep talking about months after the trip ends; don’t forget to ask us about that when we get you booked.
  • Babysitting is available on request, making evenings easy for parents who want a little downtime or a chance to visit the spa.
  • The Torr da Lenn Wellness Center is the heart of relaxation at Valbella. This is a sleek, five floor, modern spa with panoramic mountain views, a Finnish sauna, bio-sauna, steam baths, and a whirlpool tub that feels like a warm hug after fresh alpine air and activity. Please note that, like many spas in Switzerland, the saunas and steams are nude and co-ed.
  • Don’t miss the hotel’s excellent wine cellar, featuring carefully curated Swiss and international selections – a treat for wine lovers.
