Why we like it for families

  • The Location. Perched on the French shore of Lake Geneva, Evian Resort is just 1 hour from the Geneva Airport but feels a world away from the big city.  You can take the resort shuttle into the charming town of Évian-les-Bains, hop on a boat to Lausanne on the Swiss side of the lake, or venture into the Alps for hiking or skiing. It’s an ideal base for combining lake relaxation with mountain adventure — whether you stay for a few days or use it as a jumping-off point for a bigger itinerary.
  • The Kids’ Resort.  Evian’s Kids’ Resort goes well beyond the typical kids’ club — it’s a dedicated building! There’s a Baby Club for children ages 4 to 36 months, a Kids’ Club for ages 3 and up (included), and a Teens’ Club for kids 10 to 17. The resort offers everything from art workshops to sports outings to ski lessons in the nearby Alps — complete with gear, transport, and instructors. Some families say their kids never want to leave, and we believe it.
  • A Luxury Choice.  The Evian Resort complex has two main hotels – 5-star Hotel Royal and 4-star Hotel Ermitage – which share lots of amenities, but are two distinct properties.  Hotel Royal is a five-star resort that manages to feel warm and welcoming — a rarity at this level of polish. You’ll find formal gardens, gourmet dining (including a Michelin-starred restaurant), and attentive service that extends to every member of the family. Hôtel Ermitage, its four-star sister, delivers the same beautiful setting and access to resort-wide amenities at a more approachable price point, making this one of the best value luxury stays in the area.
  • The Rooms. Despite the posh setting, rooms at both hotels are designed with families in mind. At Hôtel Royal, the family rooms and suites include a clever feature we’ve never seen before: a sofa bed that transforms into bunk beds! Siblings sharing the pullout finally get their own space. Hôtel Ermitage also offers a range of suites and deluxe rooms with extra beds or separate sitting areas — equally suited to families of 3–5.
  • The Family Amenities. This is a resort that thinks through the details: kids receive personalized welcome gifts (like water bottles labeled with their names), rooms come stocked with kid-size robes and toiletries, and children’s menus are available at the restaurants. Baby equipment, high chairs, cribs, and babysitting are all available by request.

Location and Activities

The Evian Resort sits on the serene southern shore of Lake Geneva, in the charming spa town of Évian-les-Bains. Just a one-hour train or drive from Geneva Airport, the location is both peaceful and incredibly convenient — ideal for kicking off or ending a bigger trip through the Alps or Switzerland. The resort provides a shuttle to town, making it easy to explore local shops, restaurants, and lakeside promenades.

From the resort, families can take a ferry across Lake Geneva to Lausanne, hop over to Montreux, or drive an hour into the Portes du Soleil for skiing, hiking, or mountain biking. Chamonix is just a bit farther for those looking for bigger alpine adventures. Whether you’re after relaxing lake views or easy access to the Alps, this is a perfect base for exploring the region without packing and repacking.

  • The Evian Resort stretches across 47 acres of lush, landscaped gardens on the French side of Lake Geneva. Hôtel Royal sits grandly overlooking the lake, while Hôtel Ermitage is nestled just up the hill. Don’t let the room count throw you off — everything is easy walkable on this property, and because there are two separate hotels, it does not feel like a large resort.
  • Rooms and suites vary widely between the two hotels, giving families flexibility depending on size and budget. Hôtel Royal’s rooms lean classic and elegant, with heritage details and views over the lake or gardens. Hôtel Ermitage’s style is more relaxed, with cozy, chalet-inspired decor and family suites that sometimes include kitchenettes for light cooking or snacks.
  • Dining options span five restaurants and several bars across the two hotels, ranging from fine French cuisine with Michelin-starred accreditation, to more casual, kid-friendly brasseries. Most stays include breakfast, and families can choose from half-board or full-board options to simplify mealtimes. Kids’ menus, high chairs, and the option to eat earlier are available, and the shuttle into town makes it easy to try local restaurants when you’re ready for something different.
  • The Evian SPA at Hôtel Royal is a true retreat — modern, spacious, and designed around the natural water cycle that made this region famous. It includes indoor and outdoor hydrotherapy pools, a snow room, and a peaceful terrace with lake views. Children are welcome outside of adult-only hours, and spa treatments are available for kids starting at age four, including mini-massages and parent-child experiences.
  • The Kids’ Resort is a signature highlight and a true standout among European family resorts. The facilities include a pool, indoor play zones, creative spaces, a climbing wall, and extensive outdoor areas — including a private garden and nature play zones. In winter, staff can take kids up to the mountains for skiing and sledding; in summer, the programming includes nature walks, mini golf, and themed events. It’s a place where children are truly excited to go — and parents can enjoy downtime knowing their kids are in excellent hands.
  • Depending on the season, the resort offers outdoor adventures from beginner-friendly ski days to guided mountain hikes. In winter, the staff can fully coordinate ski lessons in nearby Portes du Soleil — including gear, instructors, and transport — so families can enjoy the mountains without the hassle of staying slope-side. In warmer months, there’s golf, mountain biking, boating on the lake, and family-friendly wine region outings.
  • The resort’s thoughtful extras make family travel feel easier. There’s a game room at Hôtel Ermitage, organized holiday programming, and concierge help with planning custom excursions. Bike rentals are available in summer, and the resort shuttle makes it easy to move between the hotels and explore the town’s shops, lakeside parks, and thermal spa culture. The overall atmosphere is elegant but easygoing — luxurious, but never fussy — which makes it feel especially comfortable for families.

This was our fourth stay at Hotel Ermitage and we can’t wait for our next. The staff at the hotel and kids resort are extraordinary. Our entire family enjoyed the beautiful grounds and facilities.
We tried the carte de jour at the restaurant every day. Amazing!
Great hotel for a relaxing family vacation.

A relaxing and friendly place! Perfect for families thanks to the quality of the kids resort which allows children to have fun and parents to rest. Very good review of the restaurant À La Table also! Thank you to all the hotel teams for their kindness and professionalism!
