Why we like it for families

  • An excellent all-inclusive. We recommend very few big, all-inclusive resorts at Mango Tree – they aren’t generally our vibe. But Finest Playa Mujeres really stands out above the rest in its overall vibe, design – and value for money. If you’re looking for an easy, affordable, all-inclusive vacation at a beautiful resort, you won’t regret choosing this one.
  • The grounds / property. We love that there are no high-rise towers here – the buildings only have four stories. This keeps the property feeling open and spacious, and aesthetically pleasing. Many of the buildings have swim up or private pools, which leaves the main pool areas uncrowded, and gives the resort an overall calm and peaceful vibe, even when full with families.
  • The rooms. These rooms come in varying configurations, with swim-up pools, private pools, and rooftop plunge pools. Many are large and specifically designed for families with a separate room for the kids. Note that family rooms book up fast, so best to plan this trip with lots of advance notice.
  • The kids’ club. The kids’ club is broken into three groups (3-6, 7-11, 12-15) and offers tons of activities to ensure everyone has a great time, including a small kids-only waterpark. There is also a separate daycare area near the hotel restaurants called the Imagine Lounge where kids can take their breakfast (7am – 11am) and dinner (5pm – 10:30pm) for up to 90 minutes.
  • The food. If you’re looking for a foodie vacation, that’s not what you’ll find here. That said, for a well-priced all-inclusive resort, the food is quite good – especially the breakfast. There are a dozen restaurants to choose from, weekly barbecues, and unlimited ice cream and coffee. Personal tip – we highly recommend upgrading the wine at the Mexican restaurant to try a bottle from Mexico’s wine region, Valle de Guadeloupe.
  • The family perks. The kid-focused add-ons offered by the Finest go way beyond the average all-inclusive resort. For babies, for example, the resort will provide not only cribs and high-chairs, but baby bathtubs, bottle warmers, monitors, and homemade purees. A mini-spa offers a host of kid-specific treatments too, a nice treat.

Location and Activities

The Finest Playa Mujeres is located about 30 minutes north of the Cancun airport. The hotel offers private, VIP airport transportation at $199 round trip. Other companies, such as USA Transfers, offers shared van transportation for $75 round trip – but they can be inconsistent and you may have to wait longer for your shuttle to arrive.

Once you get to the Finest, you’re unlikely to leave the resort. Choose this hotel when you want to go to one location, stay put, and relax. Head to the hotel website for more details about the various resort activities.

  • You’ll enter Playa Mujeres through a large main reception building. Note from the property map that there are no rooms in this building, which is reserved for reception, a small store, and 15 different bars and restaurants. Additional bars and restaurants are located above the pool and around the property.
  • The family-friendly rooms are in 5 separate buildings around the property. (Building 6 is the adults’ only Excellence area). We highly recommend upgrading to a room in the Finest Club area (about $50 extra per night) when traveling with kids. Finest Club Rooms are in Buildings 4 and 5, which are much closer to the beach. Building 5 has the best location. Club Rooms also have access to a separate beach area with daybeds, and a separate small bar and restaurant close to the rooms.
  • The pool is divided into two sections – adult only and family-friendly, but you can swim between them. Each side has a swim-up bar, where little ones will enjoy ordering non-alcoholic strawberry daquiris and sitting on the in-pool stools. Just past the pool is a great beach area, with calm waters (not perfectly flat but good for swimming).
  • The kids’ club has its own outdoor pool area, complete with waterslides and play structures. Even if you decide not to drop your kids off while staying here, take them to explore the children’s facilities. In-room babysitting is also available.
  • Do not miss the chance to experience the One Spa. In addition to traditional spa offerings, the signature hydrotherapy experience takes you through a series of hot- and cold-water treatments. The Mini Spa has a selection of curated kids’ treatments, such as berry-coconut mani-pedis, mini facials, and Mommy and Me massages.
  • Finest offers a wide-range of fitness activities, including yoga, tennis, bicycles, beach volleyball, paddle boarding, snorkeling, kayaking, and water polo – just to name a few. You certainly won’t get bored here.

Traveler Reviews

From the well kept clean grounds to the 11 restaurants and endless activities for adults and kids, this truly was a vacation.. . . We had a jr swimout suite – it had a king, sofa pull out, and another lounger sofa, plenty of room for a family of 4. . . .The resort was not only clean, but the grounds were constantly being attended to, and lobby and bathrooms smelled refreshing and clean at all times. Everyone greeted us with a smile when passing by and made us feel welcome and warm.

Kids Club: This was a big question mark for us but our children absolutely loved it. We couldn’t get my 5 year old daughter out of there. . . . Strongly recommend. . . .We had the family suite with private plunge pool. We barely used the plunge pool because there was a main pool steps away but it was still worth the additional spending IMO to be able to just walk right out to the pool. The separate bedroom and tv was awesome for the kids. Reviewed by Mike J, May 2022, via TripAdvisor
