Why we like it for families

  • Laid-Back Luxury. Families deserve luxury too, but luxury with kids is best experienced in a laid-back environment. That’s precisely what you’ll find at GoldenEye, where personalized touches are felt in beach huts, and you’ll never feel pressured to dress up for a delicious dinner with your kids.
  • The Family-Friendly Property. If you want your beach vacation to have a truly tropical feel, GoldenEye will catch your fancy. The 52 tropical acres on which GoldenEye sits will quickly become a natural playground for your kids. Beyond the very kid-friendly beach, imagine rope bridges over lagoons, garden pathways, fresh picked coconuts ready to drink, and even caves to explore. Older kids can enjoy the snorkeling cove, paddleboards and kayaks. In short, it’s far more interesting than your average beach resort.
  • The Food. Adults and adventurous children will get their fare share of local specialties but there also are plenty of choices for pickier eaters. And while you may be tempted never to leave the hotel grounds, the staff at GoldenEye encourages you to explore the eateries in the town of Oracabessa.
  • A Community Focus. We love having the opportunity to show our kids a local community while getting away on vacation. GoldenEye has a coral nursery, works on sea turtle protection, and implements programs to give back to the Oracabessa community. While it once operated as an all-inclusive resort, it now encourages guests to enjoy the on property dining, but also to explore the culinary scene in the nearby town.

GoldenEye Resort offers Mango Tree guests VIP amenities including: Upgrade on arrival, subject to availability; $100 resort credit; Early Check-In / Late Check-Out, subject to availability; Complimentary Wi-Fi. Let’s get you VIP’d!

Location and Activities

GoldenEye is located in Oracabessa Bay, 20 minutes outside of Ocho Rios on the north coast of Jamaica. To get there, you can fly either into Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay (2 hours) or into Kingston’s Norman Manley International Airport (90 minutes).

From either location, the hotel can arrange a driver to meet and pick you up on arrival.

  • Fun fact: GoldenEye is where Ian Fleming wrote his James Bond novels. And where Sting wrote “Every breath you take.” Something about this property, with its secluded vibes and deep connection to nature, gets its guests’ creative juices flowing.
  • GoldenEye is not your typical hotel; instead, it is a collection of spread-out villas, cottages, and hip beach huts. The hotel grew slowly over the years, with more rooms added as guests flocked to the hotel in droves.
  • Each accommodation has its own balcony with loungers and overlooks the calming lagoon or the sea. Most have an outdoor shower – one of our favorite travel accessories, and ones that kids love. Some have kitchens, other have outdoor living spaces. All are tastefully decorated in a classic island style.
  • Families with young children should book the Originals or Beach Villas, which range in size from one- to five- bedrooms. The Lagoon villas, with stairs straight into the water, may make it hard for those with small travelers to relax, and are best saved for travel with older kids. So too are the Two-Bedroom beach huts, which have one room on top of the other, and only a ladder to connect them.
  • Fresh, authentic Jamaican cuisine is all the rave at GoldenEye! Have your breakfast by the pool at Bizot, BBQ at Bamboo Bar, and cocktails at Shabeen. You can also enjoy your drinks and dinner at the Gazebo- a treehouse-inspired restaurant. Room service is also available. Bizot offers an all-day kids menu.
  • Water-based activities are plentiful at GoldenEye, from swimming and snorkeling to paddle boarding and kayaking. Bu there’s also mountain bikes, tennis courts, running trails, morning yoga, and fitness courses that may be scheduled through the resort’s FieldSpa.
  • Beyond the natural wonders on this expansive property, kids will love the pools. There are two freshwater pools – one with a great baja shelf for kids and an infinity edge overlooking the beach. The other offers more privacy on a rocky cliff just above the ocean. The third pool (wait for it) is a saltwater splash pool shaped like a GoldenEye.
  • While there is no kids’ club, GoldenEye does offer a host of kid-focused activities, including scavenger hunts and arts and crafts. Babysitting is available.

Traveler Reviews

Our Trip to Golden eye We stayed in two adorable Lagoon Cottages (4A & 4B) and it was the highlight of our stay! Delicious linens, beautiful towels, the outdoor shower… we loved the rustic-luxe vibe. Although you might be tempted to stay on the beach I cannot stress enough how completely amazing and unique it was to be on the Lagoon. I will never forget waking up every morning and jumping right off the porch into the gorgeous water. Our kids (ages 13 & 16) loved just getting in the kayaks and exploring anytime they felt like peeling themselves off the sun loungers. The grounds are so spacious and natural which also gives this place the feeling that you’re not at a resort but part of a most special community. All amplified by the beautiful and friendly staff at every step of the way – Travon, Kirk, Trey, John Ross, Xavier…and so many, many more! Meanwhile, it really feels like you have the place to yourself – if you want to find other guests you can, but there’s ample space to stay completely to yourself.

The most magical trip to Jamaica we’ve had was at Golden Eye! Golden Eye is such a magical place! Nestled between the sea & lagoon there’s just so much to do with this resort! We spent a week at Golden Eye & it was nothing short of magical. It was such a unique & magical place, unlike any other luxury resort we have visited. We stayed in the 2bR beach villa with our 3 year old & it was the perfect location. Beautiful private beach area, amazing views of the ocean, sleep to the sound of the waves, sea turtles on the beach a night. It was incredible!!! The outdoor shower was sooo nice & the room was so spacious & private. We loved snorkelers cove & the lagoon too for snorkeling, lots of fish, found a live conch, lots of snails & hermit crabs. Our daughter loved every adventure every day. The 2 pools are great & often very quiet & relaxing with gorgeous ocean breeze & views. The sunsets are UNREAL!!! Pink & orange skies!!!
