Why we like it for families

The rooms. More spacious and more comfortable than your average beach hotel, the 2-bedroom and 3-bedroom villas comfortably fit families. Plus, you get a full kitchen. And the plush beds at Las Veranda are beyond comfortable – you may actually sleep well on a family trip here.
The pool. Words can’t do the two-tier infinity pool at Las Verandas justice. Not only is it gorgeous – with a postcard view – but the shallow end has a baja shelf platform that’s perfect for kids to splash around.
The property. It’s small, but well-groomed and designed. Each room and villa is a short walk to the pool and restaurant, making it easy to navigate with kids.
The staff. Traveler reviews uniformly rave about the warm staff and attentive service, which we experienced on our visit as well.
The unique location. Most families visiting Roatan will stay in the resort-hub, West Bay Beach, at the far end of the island (about a 45-minute drive from Las Verandas). This hotel, by contrast, is located in the center of the island, making it a good choice for families interested in (1) doing more exploring and activities during the day, rather than just beach lounging; and (2) coming home to a peaceful getaway and uncrowded pool at the end of the day.

Location and Activities

Las Verandas is located 25 minutes from the Juan Manuel Gálvez International Airport (RTB). Because of the hotel’s remote location, you’ll need a car for exploring, which are easy to rent at the airport.

Stay at Las Verandas for a central Roatan location to allow for exploring the island’s more touristy and popular West End, but also the more undeveloped East End of the island. You arrive at Las Verandas by driving 10-minutes off the island’s main road through a private gated resort community called Pristine Bay. As of this year, Las Verandas shares the same owner as Pristine Bay Resort, a bigger hotel you’ll pass along the route. Drive over a hill, take in the stunning views, and coast into Las Verandas.
Stroll through the quiet reception area, and the first thing you’ll see on the other side are the stairs down to the two-level infinity pool, with the beach beyond that.
To your right, a winding lawn takes you to the suites and villas. One thing to note: This property is unfinished. Online property maps show the full site plan, but as of Spring 2022, only about a third of the villas and rooms are operational. The best villa in our opinion is 1-B, right next to the infinity pool and beach entrance.
The pool is flanked by the hotel’s two restaurants. Las Pergolas, the fine dining restaurant, is open for breakfast and dinner. Palapa Pool Bar is a classic poolside grill, with casual lunch options and drinks. The hotel food and drinks are on the pricey side, but the suites and villas have kitchens so you can stock your fridge.
Just past the pool, you’ll see the man-made beach. It’s very calm – great for lounging, building sandcastles, kayaking and paddle boarding. Note, however, that it’s not a good swimming beach, as the seaweed starts close to shore. Your swimming here will be mostly in the pool. The closest beach for good swimming is Marbella Beach (20 minutes) – a hidden gem recommended by locals.

The hotel is physically extremely beautiful, the location right on the beach is gorgeous, and the staff went so far above and beyond in helping us it was amazing. The photo of the ocean I took from my veranda was jaw dropping. Definitely a place for the ‘gram’. We ate all breakfasts and a couple lunches and dinners at Las Verandas and the food was excellent. The hotel organized our rental car, scuba diving trips (Key Divers – terrific) and deep sea fishing (Captain Regan – very good). l I can’t recommend Las Verandas highly enough! (We had 2 hotel rooms; family of 4 – March 2022).

Our family stayed in a private villa at Las Verandas, and had an incredible week away on this gorgeous island. The rooms were spacious and beautiful. We spent hours in the outdoor spaces (deck and veranda) relaxing next to the ocean. This place is peaceful and breathtaking, exactly what we were looking for. The staff was incredibly hospitable and friendly, helping us with everything we needed.
