Why we like it for families

  • Family-friendly luxury. You won’t find plastic beach chairs here. Once you start looking at photos of this gorgeous hotel, it will quickly rise to the top of your travel bucket list. Appointed with light wood finishings, white linens and loungers, but with pops of Caribbean color, it exudes relaxation. But it’s not too fancy for families – come as you are, in flip flops and casual attire, with the little ones in tow.
  • The family-focused activities. Sublime Samana is thoughtful when it comes to making sure its family guests have a great time. From time-to-time, the hotel offers specific family packages, which include things like pizza cooking classes, in-room movie nights, and parent-child spa treatments. The hotel offers nanny services and has a playground, with swings and a rope-bridge through the trees. At the beach, you’ll find sand toys, boogie boards, paddle boards, and kids’ bikes – plus kid-sized life jackets.
  • The pools. Wow, the pools. Two pools (one adult-only, one family-friendly) are connected by river-like mini-pools that run the length of the entire property, compete with overwater cabanas.
  • The suites. Ranging from one- to four-bedrooms, each of the 26 beautiful suites and casitas is large enough to accommodate families. Plus, they have full kitchens, with a grocery store only 15 minutes away. The large bedrooms provide plenty of space for babysitters to watch the kids as well.
  • The location. Skip the touristy beaches of Punta Cana and escape to an off-the-beaten-path gem. The Samana peninsula in north-eastern Dominican Republic has lush rainforests, waterfalls, unspoiled beaches, and even humpback whales (from January to March). It’s known by many for its picturesque beach town, Las Terrenas – only a 10-minute shuttle ride from the hotel.
  • The only downside? Proximity to the Dominican Republic’s major international airport. Santo Domingo airport is 1 hr. 45 minutes from the hotel. The hotel will arrange private transportation for $200 each way, but you’ll need to factor in this additional travel time.

Location and Activities

The Samana Peninsula is a nature-lovers destination. Within an hour’s reach of the hotel, you have access to Los Haitises National Park, Zip-lining, waterfalls, and more. The peninsula is known for its humpback whale-watching from January to March.

  • The aerial photo of Sublime Samana gives highlights its stunning architectural design. The main u-shaped building contains 18 suites, each with floor-to-ceiling windows and some with private Jacuzzis. The building’s arms point you towards the stand-alone casitas (but really, these are private villas) that mark the path to the beach.
  • The two inter-connecting pools running between the casitas from the main building all the way to the beach, are the centerpieces of the resort. One pool is adults-only, giving mom and dad a place to retreat during breaks, while the other is designed for kids.
  • At the end of the pools, you’ll have direct access to miles of sandy, nearly deserted beach. Sometimes the water can be a little rough for kids, more appropriate for school-aged kids to boogie board than for toddlers to splash around. Littler kids may spend more time in the pools.
  • Bistro restaurant in main building is open for breakfast and dinner, with an extensive kids’ menu too. La Palapa beachside grill serves lunch, and the occasional dinner barbecue – plus the tropical drinks of course.
  • Coconut Whispers Spa pays tribute to the healing properties of the coconut, by using all of its components in its spa treatments. Fitness center and tennis courts offered as well.

Traveler Reviews

We had a wonderful stay with our family! The kids were super happy to play on the beach and in the pool! The hotel was quiet and relaxing, perfect for us. Angel at the beach provided excellent service every day! Great massage at the spa! The beach and water are breathtaking. We will be back!

The hotel is beautiful, from the walk to the beach, to the spa, and mostly the beach, which makes you feel like you’re lost in the middle of the jungle. But the thing that really makes this hotel special is the service you get. I want to give a lot of credit to Angel Gabriel at the beach, who would make sure we had everything we needed while staying at the beach. We will definitely come back to this place next time we go to Las Terrenas.
