Why we like it for families

  • The location. You’ve found a Caribbean hidden gem. Dominica offers no shortage of beauty and adventure – but you won’t see endless stretches of white-sand beach or megaresorts here. Instead, you’ll encounter tropical rainforest and rugged mountains. Volcanic peaks. 367 rivers. Freshwater swimming holes. Miles of hiking trails. World-class snorkeling and diving. Whale watching. Hot springs and waterfalls. Caves and canyons. A total immersion in nature, but with the Caribbean Sea always in sight.
  • Proximity to kid-friendly activities. Sea Cliff is on Dominica’s northeast corner, near the town of Calibishie, less than 15 minutes away from many of the island’s awesome activities. A natural black sand beach, where a river meets the sea, is just a 5-minute walk from the cottages. So are Dominica’s Red Rocks, with caves and secret passages. Batibou Beach, known as Dominica’s prettiest stretch of sand, is 15 minutes away. And you’ll have easy access to hikes, natural swimming pools, waterfalls and more.
  • The cottages. Seacliff’s eco-cottages are simple but well-designed for families, with bunk beds, kitchens, grills, and lawns for running around barefoot. You will always have a view of the ocean. Also, you get the independence of a self-catering cottage with the benefits of an on-site owner and staff.
  • The people. Owners Amber and Simon visited Dominica with their two boys in 2021 and fell in love with the island. A few months later, they relocated from Brooklyn to Dominica to take over Sea Cliff. Their kids are in a local school, and they love exploring the island. They offer great suggestions for family-friendly activities – based on personal experience – and understand the needs of traveling families.
  • The kid-friendly grounds. The cottages each sit on sizeable pieces of land, with lawns for running around, mango trees for shade, spacious balconies, and awesome ocean views.

Location and Activities

Sea Cliff Dominica is located on Dominica’s northeast coast, 20 minutes from Dominica’s Charles-Douglas Airport.

We encourage you to rent a car to explore Dominica’s rainforest, beaches, hiking trails, and waterfalls, even though driving can be a little intimidating on the windy island roads. Seacliff’s highly-regarded driver, Pascal, can be engaged for driving services if you’d prefer to get some help.

Sea Cliff Dominica is walking distance from two beaches and from the small fishing village, Calibishie.

The Discover Dominica website has great ideas for kid-friendly activities and restaurants in Dominica, as does the Sea Cliff Dominica website.

  • Sea Cliff’s eco-cottages are all solar powered, and cooled by ceiling fans instead of air conditioning. Natural waste is composted, and plastic is avoided through use of mountain-sourced tap water.
  • The property does not have a restaurant, but you’re only 5 minutes from Calibishie, a town with two grocery stores, a fresh produce market open on weekdays, and several restaurants. Amber and Simon offer a limited selection of menu items, like homemade bread and hummus, that can be ordered during your stay.
  • Shortly before your arrival at Sea Cliff, you’ll be offered the chance to preorder local food, drinks, and books. You can arrive to a small batch of hand-crafted cocktails, local eggs, freshly baked bread, cold brew for the morning, and a novel by a Dominican author.
  • Sea Cliff works with a local kindergarten teacher to offer babysitting services. (Or, Amber and Simon – who were also foster parents in another life – sometimes will babysit themselves!)

Traveler Reviews

We had a great 5-day stay at Sea Cliff! There were four of us – two adults and two small kids (4 and 2) – and the Ocean View Two Bedroom was perfect for us. The cottage had everything we needed and the view was beautiful. The ceiling fans and natural breeze kept it cool, even in the middle of the day. Amber and Simon were great hosts and provided lots of advice and tips on things to do in the area. Amber makes fantastic bread, hummus and cocktails, which you can order while you’re there. We had a wonderful time and highly recommend both visiting Dominica and staying at Sea Cliff, especially for families with small kids.

We loved everything about Sea Cliff Cottages. Simon and Amber are such friendly, helpful hosts and our cottage was pretty much perfect — comfortable, charming, and everything worked properly! A true home away from home on a beautiful site. Added touches: a guidebook is provided with not only info about the facilities, but where to eat, where to shop, what to see, and how to get to all these places — extremely helpful! We were able to hire Sea Cliff’s excellent driver, Pascal, to pick us up in Roseau and drive us to a few sites. Were were able to pre-order some supplies, so when we arrived the fridge was stocked with eggs, delicious homemade sourdough bread and a generous bottle of cold-brew coffee ready for the next morning (and homemade rum punch for that evening)! Highly recommended!
