Why we like it for families

  • The location. Jost Van Dyke is a special place, away from it all. It historically has been more of a day trip location, or a place for boat charters to drop anchor. But that’s because there were no luxurious accommodations to tuck into at night. The Hideout changed that, with its 7 perfectly appointed villas just steps from the infamous White Bay Beach, one of the best in the Caribbean.
  • The Rooms. These villas may be the most comfortable hotel rooms imaginable, from the bamboo sheets to the thoughtful lighting to the plunge pools overlooking the sea. Two of the 7 villas are two bedrooms, and would provide an impeccable home base for families of 4 seeking to get away from it all. (Note that the two bedroom villas accomodate a max of 4 people, so this hotel unfortunately does not provide a good option for families of 5). The two-bedroom villas not only have room for families, they also have a kitchenette and very comfortable living spaces. You’ll never want to leave this room (except to go to the beach).
  • The Food. The Hideout BVI is affiliated with one of the best restaurants on White Bay Beach, Hendo’s Hideout. Stroll over to the beachfront dining area for locally sourced fish and fruits, delicious conch fritters, and even a sushi night. There are 2-3 other great restaurants on White Bay Beach as well, and in town as well.

Note that this tiny luxury hotel has space for families, and absolutely welcomes them, but it is not a resort with lots of amenities. Jost Van Dyke is a quiet island. This is a place to slow down and take it easy in comfort.

Location and Activities

Jost Van Dyke is one of the four main islands in the British Virgin Islands, situated to the northwest of Tortola and east of the U.S. Virgin Islands. It can be reached by ferry from either Tortola, St. Thomas, or St. John.

The Hideout sits on White Bay Beach, one of Jost Van Dyke’s standout spots, made famous by Kenny Chesney’s songs about the island. It’s famous for its powdery white sand and calm, turquoise waters—and for being home to the Soggy Dollar Bar, home of the original Painkiller.

You’ll arrive in Jost Van Dyke by ferry and be greeted at the terminal by a welcoming staff member from The Hideout White Bay hotel. If you room isn’t ready, let them whisk away your suitcases while you head into town for breakfast at Tipsy Shark (just a short walk or drive).

To get to the Hideout, you’ll drive up over a hill, and take in the stunning White Bay Beach from above. You’ll see the tops of The Hideouts 7-villas before you descend the hill down to them.

The Hideout l;uxury family hotel in Jost Van Dyke features five 1BR villas and two 2BR villas. Each has a private deck and plunge pool. There’s one two bedroom villa right on the beach – splurge for that one for a luxury family stay if it’s available. A handful are hillside rooms just a few steps back, which don’t have the same ocean breezes or views, but which are still very comfortable.

The villas are elevated on stilts for optimal views. Underneath each villa is a private sitting area, which is where you’ll be checked in, and also where any spa appointments will take place.

The rooms are decorated in white wash wood and calming colors. Glass doors open fully to create an open air concept when desired. But at night, blackout shades, air conditioning, and bamboo sheets set you up for a deep sleep. The rooms feel very modern, with smart TVs, high-speed internet, and an overall clean and elevated feel.

Beyond your private villa, White Bay Beach beckons. Spend the days on Jost Van Dyke with your kids relaxing in the sand and retreat to your ultra comfortable sleep space at night.

Hendo’s Hideout next door, the affiliated restaurant, has a beach volleyball court and lawn games that the kids will enjoy. The staff at The Hideout also keeps sand toys and other fun stuff on hand for kids, so don’t hesitate to ask to see what they have. The staff here, while small, will absolutely go out of their way to make your stay at this Jost Van Dyke luxury hotel a memorable one.

If you want to venture beyond the beach, the Hideout concierge is there to help.

Traveler Reviews

The Hideout-a little slice of heaven The Hideout is incredible! We stayed there for a week with our young children and family friends. Reggie, a Hideout staff member, met us with smiles at the Great Harbour dock and had a taxi ready for us to head directly over to White Bay. Upon arrival we were greeted by Ms. Pauline with refreshing drinks, cool towels and a helping hand for the kids. Ms. Pauline and all of the staff at The Hideout welcomed us like family. Our villa was beach front and absolutely gorgeous! Nadia kindly checked on us every day and assisted us with all of our wants and needs. Reggie also over saw our grocery delivery from Rite Way and delivered it right to our villa kitchen. All of the wait staff, house keepers, bar tenders and so many others helped to make our vacation a wonderful memory for our family! We are very grateful for everyone at The Hideout for their welcoming demeanor, high quality service, professional attitude and stunning amenities. We will be back!

Incredible family vacation We traveled with 2 kids and another family and stayed at The Hideout…what an amazing experience we had! The property and villas are truly spectacular and the staff even more so! They made sure we had everything we needed and even left beach toys for our kids 😊. It was hard to say goodbye to Nadia, Regie, Pauline and Andre after an incredible week! We are so fortunate we “stumbled” upon this gem last year when traveling.
